OK.....that title is not necessarily once that entices one to read on through my rambling thoughts....but......that is very much how this day transpired.
The 1st Lady remained in bed this morning........she thought she would take off a day from her early 7AM mornings with Tai Chi classes. Soooo, I did my usual sneaking out of the bedroom and downstairs...and read the morning papers online as I sipped my Fr. Roast coffee.
The morning rituals finished after she came downstairs from her morning shower......breakfast was on our own....as usual...and then she reviewed the monthly accounts, paid a few bills online, and read some emails. I puttered around the RV....and then decided to wash off the front of it and get some of the black streaks and bugs removed from it. That took about an hour.....but, oh my, does it ever look good.
Lunch was with Pete/Jane over in Mercedes at Mingo's Cafe. We have eaten there twice before and this time it was even better than the other two times!!!! I had the Veracruzanos.....and OMG, were they ever great!!!! Large taco chips covered with delicious ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, melted cheeses, onions, and jalapeno peppers.......WOW....WOW!!!!! I had the small platter and it was almost more than I could eat......HEY: This is another place here in the RGV that you MUST try!!
We didn't return to the resort until a little after 2pm.....as we all four needed to make a quick trip to H.E.B.....the local grocery that has all kinds of grocery stores throughout the RGV. Sooo, returning to TheHowserHouse, we got busy for the 4pm Happy Hour with members of the Cedar Creek RV Owners Club who are currently spending the winter in the RGV. And....by 4pm, everything was under control. The 1st Lady made some of her wonderful little sausages wrapped in Crescent rolls, covered with a thick sauce of brown sugar, honey, and pecans....and cooked in the oven for 20 minutes.....OMG, these are just really killers for appetizers!!!! Sooooo damn good!!!! She also cut up a fresh...and I mean FRESH...pineapple, strawberries, grapes, and cantelope to go with a dark, but sweet chocolate sauce into which these little morsels of fruit were dipped.
Pete/Jane and Buzz/Moe also brought appetizers which were really good......and as I said above......we had WAAAAYYYYY toooo much food today. With the temps in the 80's all day, but with those wonderful STRONG winds which come up out of Mexico from the south, and from the Gulf of Mexico(50 miles from here) from the southeast......it was a bit tooo windy for comfortable entertaining on the patio beside TheHowserHouse. However......no options were available, so I pulled the truck up closer to the front and side of the RV to attempt to block the wind. We wound up sitting in the sun until it dropped behind the palm trees and other rv's......but, the wind was slightly controlled by the blocking of the truck/rv.
We had six couples here, including ourselves, for the Happy Hour......and one couple who should have been here had a dental appointment over in Mexico, so they couldn't make it(Liz and Lynn Howard from Texas). John and Laverne from Emporia, Kansas were here, Doug and Janet from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Bob and Beverly from Pennsylvania, Buzz/Moe from Las Vegas, Pete/Jane from Las Cruces, New Mexico, and the 1st Lady and this sagging hulk of Me.
We had a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a super afternoon as we sat there and talked and laughed and had a few drinks, and ate....and laughed and thoroughly had a wonderful time for two hours!! There is just something about these two hour "happenings" every couple of days that bring together small groups of us Winter Texans....Senior Citizens.....who are relaxed, comfortable with everyone, and who just enjoy being together as we go through these really golden years of our Lives!! All of us are sooooooooooo lucky to be able to come down here, to enjoy this wonderful area and all it has to offer each of us, and to find that our lives are soooooo blessed with the benefits of having worked hard to attain these years of "rebirth"(retirement). WOW!!!!!!
And, having said what I just said in this post........as always......
LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY INCREDIBLE AND FABULOUS!!!!!!!.....and, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
