Day 52: A better day....and a HUGE HAPPY HOUR

Ahhhhh......cloudy again when my eyes finally opened.....was I really seeing correctly? Sooo, thinking that it just might be earlier than I thought it was....I pulled my sagging hulk out of the horizontal position, and checked the clock. Nope.....it was about 7:10am.....and time for me to remain in the semi-hunched back vertical position.

A bit chilly upstairs....and so, I turned on the little electric heater which we keep in the bedroom....closed the door to the downstairs....and then finished my morning rituals about 30 minutes later. Shutting down the heater, I opened the door and went downstairs, and soon that incredibly aromatic Starbucks French Roast coffee was filling the air with those mouth-watering aromas.....ahhhhh, I quickly poured a mug and just enjoyed that aroma as I TIGHTLY held the hot mug of coffee.

Setting it on a different table, away from the desk and the 1st Ladie's laptop, I began to read the emails and the online newspapers. It was still a bit chilly in the den...and so I turned on the fireplace for about 20 minutes to take the chill out of the room.

I enjoyed the coffee, enjoyed looking outside through our large windows in the den, and watching the neighborhood come outside and start to enjoy the day. A bit later I went over to Pete's and discussed our trip to Mexico for a few hours............

A little after 10.....Moe(without Buzz), Pete and Jane, and this sagging hulk of Me left in my truck for the shopping expedition to Progreso, Mexico. Soon we were walking across the bridge which spans the Rio Grande River....the border between the US and Mexico. Looking over my right shoulder, I could see that DAMN border fence which is being built, but which is ridiculous since it is not really connected at either end to any more of the fence. What does it bring to mind????? The Wall that divided Berlin.......the "Berlin Wall"........which everyone wanted torn down for all of those many, long and contentious years.

And so, we entered Mexico......and found ourselves in the midst of thousands of Americans who had come to shop in this little village of Progreso!!! And.....it soon became very, very difficult to even walk down the sidewalks.......sooooooo many people. Oh yeah....it WAS mainly the Winter Texans, but there were many younger people there, also. In and out of pharmacies we went as Jane needed to purchase some meds for family.....and that took some time as we needed to price them in several different pharmacies to get an idea as to the best prices available. But....we soon had what meds she needed to puchase today.

You know......even with the cloudy sky, the colors of this dusty little town are vibrant!!!! Yes, some...well, many is a better term.....of the buildings need a new coat of paint, but still the colors are there, the many signs for dentists, and many pharmacies...MANY of them along the streets.

We dropped in and out of the shops.....and then we went into one of the large stores......which not only carried tons of silver jewelry, but also meds...as well as a small bar for the guys to enjoy while their ladies shopped and looked and shopped and looked. Soooooo many items to check out with all of their very wild colors......from pottery to dishes to clothing to decorative items to....you name it, and I'm sure it is there!! I purchased a couple of new "Mexico" T-shirts, embroidered, and colorful(of course!).

Onwards we went.....and soon decided to eat a lunch upstairs on the fourth floor at a restaurant called "Angel's". The 1st Lady and I had eaten there two years ago.....and while it was good today, I don't believe it can match the quality of food that The Red Snapper offers. My choice of the two is obvious......The Red Snapper.

Returning to the street again, we began the pushing and shoving along the sidewalk, heading back to the Rio Grande River and the International Bridge. Well, it wasn't long before I heard someone say, "Bandman"......and I turned and it was some RV.NET friends from Springfield, MO...."Mo Rambler" and his wife. We chatted for a few minutes.....and then we parted as we each had our own "missions" to do.

As we headed down the sidewalks.....I looked ahead and saw this tall lady with really long spiked hair......and I knew who it was!!!!!!! I called out "Sharon".....and she turned and it was Sharon East, her husband and others from F'TOWN, MO!!!!!! Yep, friends from our little town in Misery!!!!! I knew they were up at Port Aransas, but she told me that today they had just day-tripped down to Mexico to shop!! WHAT a small world......as always seems to be the case for my sagging hulk!!!

Soon afterwards, we crossed the bridge, presented our passports to the Passport Control section of the Border Patrol....and were soon on our way to the SuperCenter for a few necessary items which Mexico doesn't sell. Arriving back at the resort.....we were quickly informed that there was to be a "block party" on our street with the entire new north section of the resort invited to attend with drinks and appetizers.

WOW.....and did they come!!!!!!! I have no idea how many there were, but it was GREAT FUN!!!!!! Live entertainment was enjoyed, and the chatting and laughing and just everyone having a blast as the day began to grow darker with the cloud cover that had never left today. Everyone agreed that we needed to do this much, much more often!!!!!!!!

And soooo, still using the 1st Lady's laptop, I am not sure about downloading the pictures I took today until she arrives home late tonight. If she doesn't mind, I will post them later this evening....as I do have several that I took today!!!

Yep......as I said above....."A better day"!!!!!! And.....the events of the day helped to ensure that

LIFE IS INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!!
