Day 60: WHAT a drastic change in the weather.......!!

A cloudy day was quickly discovered when I pulled myself into the vertical position, went downstairs quietly, and opened one of the shades......UGH!!! WHAT happened to our gorgeous weather.....huh??? Very cloudy and not very light for 7am......but, that IS what had been forecast. I went about the task of making my Fr. Roast coffee.....and soon, that wonderful rich aroma was filling TheHowserHouse.....and just as quickly, I had a cup of that steaming dark elixir in my hand......OMG, it was sooooo good this morning!!!!

The 1st Lady was soon up and going......announcing to me that we were going to go to a square dance this morning! Hmmmmm,.....that was certainly news to me.....and not having as yet taken care of my morning rituals, I was not put into a very good mood with that announcement sooooo soon in my day. However.....I quickly adjusted to the thought of leaving my mug of coffee earlier this morning than I had planned......and by 9:10 we were on the road to the "Bit-O-Heaven RV Park"......a few miles west of here.

We spent the next two hours there with three other squares of dancers, most of them from that particular park. We already knew that we couldn't go to the regular dance tonight as we had plans for one last Happy Hour with the other Creekers.......sooooo, that is why we went this morning to this smaller dance.

Returning to the resort, I went over to give Pete a hand with re-stringing a day/night shade....one that was a double width. It took us just a bit over one hour to complete the job.....and then get it re-installed on the wall. It definitely IS a two man job......and one that takes a bit of experience to do properly.......as those strings certainly have to be exactly in the right place and long enough strings to make several zig-zags to make the shade work correctly.

The weather had changed sooooo quickly this morning on the way to the square dance......one minute when we got into the truck it was quite warm with NO WIND. And then.....about five minutes later as we were driving down the highway, it was like a small wind sheer.....boxes, papers, palm tree fronds, etc., etc. were blowing all over the highway and the rains started coming down in sheets. AND....the temp dropped about 20 degrees in a few short minutes. However, the rain quite just as suddenly as it had started......and even though the winds were blowing out of the north, it really wasn't too bad.

Around 4pm.......several of the Cedar Creekers gathered at Buzz and Moe's RV......and for the next 3.5 hours we sat and talked and laughed, ate and drank some beverages, and just had a great time!!! We seven couples really did enjoy our evening.......and it is a bit sad to know that three are leaving within the next two days.......but it has been great fun to be together for this long.

Returning to TheHowserHouse, we settled in for the evening. The winds are very calm....and the temps are forecast for the upper 40's tonight and then the warm-up begins tomorrow. I talked with our son, Jeremy, who lives in New Orleans.....and he is on his way down here as I write. He should be here in the morning and we are both looking forward to his arrival and a visit from him!!!!!!!

A good day........albeit a very busy one......but, as always......

LIFE IS REALLY GREAT!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!

Day 59: HOT, windy, and lots of social activities!!!!

WOW......what a really warm day....errrrr, perhaps you could almost say it was a HOT day......and believe the temps were in the low to mid 90's this afternoon with a very warm wind out of the south. But.......you will not find me with any complaints!!!

After the morning rituals, the 1st Lady and I were off to Mercedes where breakfast was being held for the Cedar Creek RV Owners Club members who are here in the RGV. This was the 3rd annual breakfast for Cedar Creek members......and it was lots of fun.

We met at 9:30 at Mingo's Restaurant.....a Mexican-American "mom and pop" restaurant which serves just really great food at prices sooooo low that it is difficult to understand how they remain open........other than the fact that they are BUSY, BUSY, BUSY at all times of the day! We had fourteen members there hailing from Nevada, New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. And.......it was a wonderful breakfast with really great food and so many funny stories and laughable comments. Such great fun with such great friends!!! My breakfast???? I once again had the Huevos Rancheros.......eggs covered in salsa, crispy hash brown potatoes, refried beans, and the most wonderful fresh made corn tortillas(in place of toast, thank God). There was also a very spicy hot salsa made with jalapenos and onions available in small bowls to use.....and it was just really good on top of the eggs and on the hashed brown potatoes!!!!!! It was a large plate full of super food......and the cost???? $3.45!!!!!!!!!!!

We returned to the resort about 11:30.....and as the 1st Lady went to the laundromat in our section of the resort, I changed into my "work" clothes to take care of ALL of that white crap that was left all over my truck yesterday under that tree in the parking lot where we leave our vehicles prior to going over to Mexico. OMG......it was not easy to remove it all....and with the winds blowing very strongly at that time, the truck would be dried before I could chamois the hard water off it....and so, it almost became a losing battle with the wind and the water. However, I kept at it.....and after about an hour, I WON the battle......and it really looks much, much better. HAHAHA......I even had to hose off the concrete site/patio where I washed the truck because there was soooooooo much crap...literally....on the concrete!!!

This afternoon......I laid in the chaise lounge outside that lays almost completely vertical....and dosed and enjoyed the breezes which replaced the strong winds of earlier. VERY relaxing, to say the least!!!!

John Craig of Wisconsin, who had arrived yesterday afternoon came over in his golf cart....and we drank a beer and visited for over an hour, getting to know each other a bit more. And when he returned to his Cedar Creek.......I helpe the 1st Lady get ready for Happy Hour on the patio of TheHowserHouse. We had three couples drop by.......and for the first time, the 1st Lady took some fresh tortillas, quartered each one, and then fried them quickly in heated oil......salted them with Kosher salt......and OMG, were they ever, ever good. We had some raspberry and chardonnay salsa which we had not served before......WOW...WOW!!!!! Incredible flavors......and really great on those homemade tortilla/taco chips........soooooo damn good!!!!

Tomorrow, we will have a Cedar Creek Happy Hour and hopefully, everyone can be here before two couples of the group begin their journey home. There are always such great times when we are together........we have all become such wonderful friends!

And sooooo, another day in the RGV has come to a close. Lots of great food once again......and lots of fun times. How can it be anything else but........

LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!
