OK....the 1st Lady came rushing inside the rv this morning around 8am, following her Tai Chi class to tell me grab my camera and ride my bike quickly over to the main street of the resort.....the flock of parrots were resting there!
Soooo, off I went in a non-feathered flurry.....and after a quick 1/4 mile ride....I was under the trees and high-lines where this horrendou cackling/squacking was going one. I parked the bike and began to slowly approach the trees that had the most parrots in them.......and, WOW....it was just simply amazing to look up and see all of these beautiful green and red birds!!!!! There had to be at least 45-50 of them in this flock.......and during the time I was there, they all took off, flew around an area of the resort, and then returned to these same trees!!! All the time, I could hear this VERY loud squacking.....and it just became louder and louder as they flew back to the trees that were above me. WHAT and experience to see and to hear these gorgeous creatures!!!! WOW...WOW!!!
Reluctantly, I returned to TheHowserHouse.......grabbed a fresh cup of coffee, and sat down out on the patio in the brilliant sunshine under a cloudless bright blue sky. Even here on our patio, I could still hear these parrots. Now.....granted, they HAD been here in the park for a week or so, but I had never been around when they were sooooo visible.
I puttered around most of the morning.....as the 1st Lady spent from 10-12 noon in Line Dance classes. When she returned, we quickly hit the road for Casa Del Sol RV Park...where for the next 2.5 hours we squared danced in our class with 27 other couples from around the RGV. This was an intense class........and if you have never done this, let me advise you, it IS a very intense mental challenge. You cannot talk at all or you will miss what is being called....and as you progress, while you are completing the moves required by one call, the caller is always one step ahead and you must remember what he has said and then do that particular move.....while he is calling the next move! And.....many of these square dance calls/moves are REALLY complicated!!!!! Soooo, today I was worn out, not physically....but mentally very tired!
On the way home, we made a quick stop at an H.E.B..........the ONLY, I repeat....the ONLY brand of grocery store in the entire RGV, outside of WalMart Supercenters!!!! We picked up a few items....and then returned to the resort.....still very tired. I quickly poured myself a cup of hot coffee....and just kicked back with my feet up and relaxed for about 30 minutes or more.
We visited with our friends.....and then I grilled some burgers, potatoes, and yellow bell peppers on the grill. We ate inside....and the rest of the evening has been as always....enjoyable just watching a bit of the tellie.
I had an interesting conversation....twice....in the past 24 hours. And.....each time the same line of thought was dominant.....and that is that for many, many people, they have NO IDEA what it is like to be down here in the RGV as a retired person!!!! Actually.....it doesn't have to be here in the RGV, but wherever you are in your RV. But, since soooooo many retired citizens of the USA and of Canada are here, we continue to discuss the amazing times we have together each day, no matter where we are, or what we are doing. And we all agree, there is no way at all to put these wonderful days into descriptive words or phrases......not way at all. You would have to be here for a few days, relaxed, refreshed, retired, reborn into a new chapter of your lives.....as all of us are. We forget which day of the week it is, we don't need to know the date of the month. As a former student of mine wrote after being a reader of this blog for a long time........he wrote that "Mr. H. ....you are living a dream...a dream that we would all like to be a part of". And, in some ways he is correct. Each day brings something new, but each day also is sooooo relaxed, sooooooo much fun, sooooo great to be able to live this type of lifestyle!!!! (and even better, we are living this way with less expenses and much cheaper than if we were at home.....and everyone that discusses this AGREES).
Soooooo, our day has closed again, much before we were actually ready for it to do so, but tomorrow will bring several Cedar Creek members to our patio for a 4pm Happy Hour(s)....we should have at least 12 people here. Again, the weather is supposed to be in the upper 70's to low 80's with some stiff breezes......and it should be wonderful to get everyone together here.
One note: in the pictures below of the parrots, be sure and click/tap on each one to enlarge it to see the birds better. What a day it has been beginning with these beautiful birds.....and, as always......
LIFE IS JUST INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
