Day 5: Wonderfully WARM...and a Fun Winter Texan evening!!

OMG.....what a stunning morning!!!! While most of the day was partly to mostly cloudy, the morning was gorgeous...and the rest of the day was sooooo nice and warm. I even wore shorts from mid-morning until later this afternoon........mid 70's+!!!!

The 1st Lady had a leisurely morning.......and then took a walk to the other side of the resort.....stopping at the "Club House" to check on the activities, tours, and dinner/dances that are scheduled for the next month and also for February. We signed up for Beginning Spanish classes on Tuesday mornings.......we'll see just how beginning they are going to be......we both have had several semesters of Spanish in college.....YEARS and YEARS ago! So....if it will help to restore our memories of the language....then we will take the class, but if it is tooooooo elementary, than we will drop out of it. We both feel that we need to regain our abilities to converse in and read Spanish
as it will allow us to communicate with our next door neighbors.....three miles away.

We checked out the tours into Mexico.....and are actually giving some thought to taking one in late Feb or early March. We want to go deeper into Mexico to see and feel and enjoy the REAL Mexico......and not just the touristy part right across the border. The prices are pretty good, but need to talk with some who have taken one or more of these tours.

This afternoon the 1st Lady went to the gym to get her instructions to the equipment......a required appointment with the staff there. She enjoys going there......and is anxious to get back on a schedule of exercising.

We then got an email that there was going to be a small gathering of some RV.Net members for supper. We replied that we would be there........and oh, but what a fun evening it turned out to be!!!

We met in downtown Weslaco at Jose's Cafecito.......a nice and inexpensive Mexican cafe that also served some American food. There were eight of us there......including the wonderful "organizer" Shirley......who DOES get things organized really well!!! She and Ron have their "summer" home at the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri......my home area! Then there was a couple from Michigan.......and another couple from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada........who spend their winters in Mexico, but are originally from Switzerland and Austria!! How's that for being citizens of the world????? It was a really FUN, FUN group!!!!!

The food???? Nothing to brag about, but not one complaint, either!!! It was generally good....and I would/will return there again. However, the icing on the evening was the family group that performed for two hours!!!!!!! They were soooooooooooo good.......and sooooooooo much fun!!!! "Mari and her Spanish Angels"..........a mother and father and their seven children, ages 5 to 21. Marie is originally from Mexico and came to the states with here parents when she was a child........became citizens and she now has an incredibly talented family group!!!!

They all play various musical instruments from the keyboard, guitars, to various percussion instruments. The smallest one......well, WOW......he was really a cutie, dancing and playing the claves and enjoying himself thoroughly performing for the audience in the cafe!!!!!

IF you are in the area, make plans to go and hear them at Jose's Cafecito. They perform on Friday and Saturday nights there.......no cover charge....and very few meals are over $7.00!!!! It is in Weslaco at 260 S. Texas Avenue.....and will be worth your time to spend an evening there.

THIS is what being a Winter Texan is all about!!!!! Great weather, wonderfully friendly Winter Texans, and being soooooooo accepted and appreciated by the residents of this Rio Grande Valley!!!! How can you ask for more?????

LIFE IS GREAT!!!!!!!!.......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!!
