Day 79: FUN, FOOD, FRIENDS....what more can you ask for??

Hmmmmm……..last night was just one of those nights……I couldn’t sleep except in very short chapters and then I would be awake once again for an indeterminate time…..long enough that I am really tired this evening!!! Sooooo……….I drank my French Roast after getting my sagging hulk into the vertical position for the day…..and slowly came to the realization that it WAS daytime.

The day was gloomy again……warm and windy weather, misty and damp with 93% humidity, and each time I go outside I swear I am going blind!!!! Yep…..can’t see a damn thing as my glasses are sooooo fogged up with the sea mist in such a short time that it seems like the cataracts have formed over the aging eyeballs while I am walking around TheHowserHouse.

The 1st Lady and didn’t do too much this morning…….I cleaned up the inside of our home-on-wheels, did the carpet, the kitchen tile, and then cleaned the bathroom. We later went over to the Porter Phaeton and visited with them for awhile…….making a decision on our plans for the day. We decided to go into Port Aransas and look around the small seaside village that it is……..

And, so we did! I drove into town and we toured around for awhile, checking out the pier at the county park, looking at the RV park there, and then stopped in at a couple of little artsy shops to look and laugh…….and enjoyed this. We did locate a restaurant…..The Trout Restaurant…and decided to have lunch. We asked to be seated outside overlooking the Marina with all of the various ocean-going boats, the seagulls, and other activities. Most of us ordered the Fish and Chips……and it was good, but not outstanding. The ambience of eating outside……the sun HAD come out by that time…..and enjoying the views and the better weather…..made the lunch a very pleasant time for all of us!!!

We then walked around the marina for awhile….and then we were off in the truck to see a bit more of Port Aransas. We stopped at the city park along the ship channel….and there we saw a shrimp boat tied up to the dock……and it had a flag flying that it had “Fresh Shrimp”. Excited……we boarded the boat and we each bought 1.5 pounds of fresh medium sized live shrimp…..for $6.00!! With the shrimp in bags we headed back to Pioneer RV Resort to get the shrimp into the refrigerator quickly.

Then….as the sun disappeared, the TORNADO WARNINGS flashed across the screen of the tellie…..and we began to try to decide just what we do out here on Mustang Island with no basements or shelters to protect us!!! I got the RV ready to close the slides if the winds became dangerous, but there was nothing to do should a tornado drop down out of the very dark and dangerous looking sky! As it was…..the clouds went north of us and it barely even rained here!

Doug and Diane came over and we played several games of Sequence……a fun game and good for the mental processes!! Later, we separated and fixed our own fresh shrimp dinners…..the 1st Lady fixing a Pasta with Garlic-butter shrimp!!! OHHHH soooo good!!!! After cleaning up the many dishes and pans……we waited awhile and the went over to Porter’s Phaeton motor coach and played for a couple of hours……Sequence again!

The temps are heading down for tonight, the winds are blowing from the north, and GREAT weather is forecast for tomorrow, our last day here on the island. Tomorrow…..perhaps some beach time….NOT water time, but just a bit of time walking on the beach. Then……we will need to prepare for an early departure on Thursday to drive the almost 300 miles to Beaumont, Texas….where we have reservations for over-nighting there. We do need to get through Houston before the rush hour makes things bad on the highway!!!!

Friday, we will drive on over to New Orleans where we will spend at least six nights. Looking forward to that week there……love NO!!!!

Hey…..this has been a wonderful day with two great friends……we seem to have become even closer with each passing day……seeming to have soooo much in common!!!! I will hate to leave them on Friday as they go on to Alabama for some warranty work on their Tiffin Phaeton coach. We will enjoy each and every moment of the next two days together……….Life is getting too short to see good friends disappear down the road and around the bend……. BUT…..as always,

LIFE IS REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!……And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
