Day 78: Gray and Windy.....but a fun-filled day with wonderful friends!!!

As I raised the shades this morning…..a few minutes after I came downstairs at 7am…..I realized that it could turn out to be really gloomy, misty day. It was gray, misty, and windy…..looked really cold outside, however…..the temp was 72 degrees. OK…..what shall we do today?? As I sipped my hot steaming mug of French Roast coffee…..I considered the options: beach?….NO……shopping?….NO…..looking around the village of Port Aransas??……Yeah, maybe that might work.

The 1st Lady didn’t get up until almost 9am…..and then I made the bed, jumped into the shower, a few more morning rituals….and while I was getting dressed, someone knocked on the door of TheHowserHouse!! Of course…….I heard the lilt and positive voices of Doug and Diane as the 1st Lady opened the door for them to enter our little home-on-wheels. I finished dressing quickly…..and joined them downstairs…..

They had come to chat for a few minutes about what to do today…….guess I wasn’t the only one thinking about possibilities of today…….. We decided to go into Port Aransas….about 5 miles from the RV Park where we have our rigs connected to the power posts. Soooo, they left….and we turned on our “walkie-talkies” radio…..as we can connect with them in their motorhome that way when we are on the same channel. We had a quick breakfast….and walked over to their motorhome……..and soon we were in their car and heading into town.

We both plan to leave here together on Thursday for Beaumont, TX…….where we will overnight on our ways east. And……We MUST put our rigs on a ferry to ride across the ship channel!!!! So, we wanted to look over the entrance to the ferry lanes….and the exit on the other side…….trying to get a visual as to how to approach the lanes and how much room we will have on the ferry to park our rigs…???? After watching the line of cars, trucks, rvs,…..we decided that it might not be toooo much of a problem if we can get the rigs around the turns to get into the correct lanes….Soooo, we decided to get in line, cross the channel on the ferry, and then go on to Corpus Christi to take the tours on the USS Lexington…..a WWII aircraft carrier that served in the South Pacific.

The ferry ride was short…..not a very long distance from one side of the channel to the other…..and then we stopped a few miles down the road to have lunch at Chili’s. A very good choice as we all had the soup and salad…….and there are several choices for each of the two. Then off we went to the USS Lexington…….

WOW…..a huge ship….and we spent from 1:30pm until 6pm there, taking all of the tours and then viewing an IMAX movie on board. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience……very educational, albeit a bit tiring as we went down and up, and up and down the many narrow and steep stairways inside the body of the carrier. LOTS of people, but the carrier is very large and carried many, many Navy personnel during it’s service.

By 7pm, we had made our way back to the ferry, crossed the channel, and returned to the RV Park. HIGH WINDS here….and expected to last most of the night. Right now they are roaring across the sand dune at 40mph……YES, I said 40MPH!!!!!! Gusts have been recorded at 58mph…..WOW. TheHowserHouse is currently feeling like we are sitting in an airplane in the midst of some turbulence!!! Suppose to be calmer shortly after midnight…….we’ll see!!!

This has been such fun today!!!!! The four of us have such a great time being together……laughing at many things that turn out to be very funny(to us)…..and just simply enjoy each other’s company! A GREAT DAY!!!!

And soooooo, as always…..

LIFE IS REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!…..And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
