Day 81: An easy trip to Beaumont, TX

Oh my.......the alarm went off at 5:20 this morning....and as I lay there, I finally made myself get up at 5:30, go through the morning rituals groggily, and then get the 1st Lady up at 6am. A quick few sips of the hot Fr. Roast coffee and I began moving the den furniture around into safe positions for the 300 mile trip.

Then, after her shower, I emptied the holding tanks, and began to get other things put away for the trip. We hooked up, pulled out into the street in front of us, and then went backwards to the corner, about 50 feet away. There were tooooo many trucks and vehicles up at the corner for us to get around the 90 degree turn if we had gone forward. By backing up we had lots of room and were soon sitting behind the motorhome of Doug and Diane, watching as they hitched/hooked up their little car to the rear of the coach. By 7:35am, we were on the road to Port Aransas.......

Pulling into town, there was very little traffic and we made the very tight left turn which would take us to the ferry where we had to cross the ship channel that runs from the Gulf into the Corpus Christi docks. Hmmmm.......both Doug and I were a bit apprehensive about loading our rigs onto the little ferry boat(s).......but we were FIRST in line for the next ferry and soon we were being directed to the boat. I was to drive on first....and they gave me two lanes to use for the trip across the channel......and after I was securely onboard, Doug began his drive onto the ferry....also using two lanes to park. We had been warned that we both might drag as the tide was out......and as we would drive onboard, the ferry would drop down a bit from the weight. BUT......we both cleared the bottom getting on and getting off the boat!!!

The trip doesn't hardly take five minutes to cross the channel and with the sun rising in the east, it was really quite a beautiful little trip across. Doug was told to drive off first...and then I went next. There were only two other vehicles on the ferry.....as Doug's coach/car and my truck and TheHowserHouse took up a LARGE part of the ferry!! The boat went up a bit after Doug's 40 foot coach and car went on land.....and then that cleared my front landing gear a bit....as that was what I was most concerned about with the possibility of those two important parts of the RV dragging and getting bent!!! Nothing went wrong and very soone we were rolling northward through Rockport, then over to Victoria, and before long we were going through the heart of Houston! We stopped at a Flying J and filled our tanks, had a wonderful little lunch in Doug's coach, and then returned to the highway for another hour and we then found ourselves in a lovely RV Park......just south of Beaumont and just off of I-10!!! Great park with free continental breakfast each day!!!! It is a "Passport America" park....and we are both members so it only cost us each $17.50 for all of the amenties available!!!! GREAT DEAL!!!!

We made a hurried trip to Walmart.....and then when we returned Doug grilled some burgers and the ladies put together a couple of other dishes for supper.......and then we wished Diane a Happy Birthday....as tomorrow is her BD.....age unknown!!! HAHAHA!!

Returning to TheHowserHouse, the 1st Lady and I are just kicking back, no tellie tonight as we just wanted some quiet for an hour before going upstairs for the night. We will drive the 255 miles over to New Orleans tomorrow and our son, Jay, will join us at the KOA for the afternoon. Then our daughter-in-law, Becky....and granddaugther Rachel will arrive tomorrow evening for the East weekend. We plan to remain in NO for at least six nights.....

Today????? With the exciting ferry ride with our rigs on board......what more can I say, but.....

LIFE IS INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
