Well.......upon quietly descending the stairs to the kitchen and den this morning, once again I noticed just how dark it seemed to be outside. Checking my trusty little Walmart watch, I realized it was 7am....and yet, it seemed to dark outside. I raised one of the shades and saw just how gray and cloudy it was.......and NO WIND! I also realized that it was not chilly at all, as I had expected it would be after seeing the forecast last night before retiring. OK......I opened another window and it was sooooooo damn muggy outside....the weather channel online said it was 74 degrees here in Mercedes....sooo I then was certain the expected cold front had not arrived.
OK.......so I turned on the coffee maker, and as always, the wonderful full-bodied aroma of the dark, rich coffee was soon filling the den. Ummmmm........hard to wait for it to finish it's morning chore of making that fresh water turn very dark brown and steamy!
After sipping a cup of that rich brew and reading a couple of newspapers online, I awakened the 1st Lady at 8am......and soon TheHowserHouse began to come alive with energy. After she finished, I went upstairs and quickly completed my morning rituals.....and soon we were preparing to go west a few miles to Casa del Sol RV Park to square dance at 10am.
Again.....more of our friends from last year have arrived in the RGV and it was sooooooo great to see them again. We had a great morning of dancing, laughing at our mistakes, and wonderful brief conversations between times on the dance floor. Millie and Don......sooooo good to see the two of you again!
Afterwards, the 1st Lady and I went a few miles further west to Camping World, and then to some other stores. For those of you who have never been down here, US Hwy 83 runs through this area and for about 50 miles it is almost SOLID commercial establishments.......stores, malls, restaurants, vehicle service shops, you name it and you will find one or more of anything you want during these 50 miles. The largest area of shopping is in McAllen and Mission....and that is where we spent the afternoon.
We ate a mid-afternoon lunch at a cafe that I had read about recently: Wallbanger's. It is a hamburger place where there are many, many different kinds of hamburgers, including stuffed ones. OK....this is the third day in a row we have lunched/eaten hamburgers, sooooo NO MORE for a week or so!!! These were good, but the buns were the best part of the lunch........extremely freshly baked buns that were sooooo soft....ummmmm, they were just soooo damned good!
We went to a very large store...."Academy".....where there is everything imaginable that has to do with sports/athletics/camping, etc., etc. A HUGE store.....and sooooo, we did pick up a few items: the 1st Lady purchased a new pair of tennis shoes.....and I bought a "throw-away" rain poncho, and a few packs of those "hand warmers" to take with me when I go to Washington for the Inaugural. It is usually very, very cold there for this event....and so, I do want to be as protected as possible.
We stopped on the way back to Llano Grande at a local meat market on Salinas Street south.....and WOW...WOW....!!!! We asked them cut us a couple of 1" thick T-bones and....OMG, they are such beautiful steaks!!!! HUGE and thick and.....I can't wait to get them on the grill!!!!!
They are only $4.55 per pound......a real bargain for fresh cut t'bones!!!!!!
On to the Resort.....and by this time, the weather HAD changed....the winds were blowing out of the north, the temp was dropping, and the muggy weather had been blown south!! Yep.....a cool change has slipped down here from the northlands.....and it is nice for a change, however......I hope it doesn't last long. Perhaps the south winds will blow this way and return some of those warm, tropical breezes and weather which we have been having!!!
And soooo, a relaxed day has been our way of enjoying this Saturday in the RGV. We love to square dance(remember: I keep encouraging all of you to take a few lessons), we enjoy shopping, and it is nice not to have anything stressful on our minds down here. There is nothing quite like being down here........it is soooo hard to explain just how great it is here.......and how much we look forward to each day!
LIFE IS REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
