SAT POST for Apr 3, 2010: A GREAT day/evening in Hermann, MO

A beautiful day it was yesterday, Saturday!!!!! Just a great day to sit out on the deck, have a cup of dark coffee......no Fr Roast in Dr. Jeni's home.....and to enjoy the birds, the blue sky after a night of rains, and the fresh air.

And.......being here with the three grandkids means something is going on.....ALL the time!!!! Soooo, there is either something funny and cute happening, or a minor emergency, or.....someone has hurt themselves......ahhh, the energies of young kids(ages 10, 4, 16 months).

During the afternoon, Easter eggs were dyed outside on the patio table.....and then following that, the 1st Lady and I left for Hermann, about 20 miles west of here. We met up with Andrew and Laura who were with their friends from Edwardsville, IL....and on the faculty of the school district there. The first winery we went to was Adamn Puchta.......and WOW.....did they ever pour the tasting wines for us......must have been at least 10....and lots of choices depending on the kind that anyone would like......from sweet all the way to the dry Norton wines.

Andrew and Laura purchased several bottles......and then we loaded up and went to the Oakglen Winery, on the east side of Hermann. We decided to get a glass of wine....or, two.....and sit outside as this place has an incredible view from high above the Missouri River on this high hill/bluff where the winery is located. Just a beautiful view.....and must be spectacular during the autumn when the foliage is changing to those wonderful brilliant colors.

Dr. Jeni and Darrel then arrived while we were there.......and we had many laughs as a bit of wine was consumed by all eight of us. Such a great place enjoy great coversations, wine, and a view!!!!! And....the wine there is really not too bad at all..........a great time it was!!!!

Leaving there we headed back into town to the Hermanhof Winery....which was closed!!!! Everything seems to shut down at 5pm here......so we walked over to the Brewery that has some micro-brews which are made there......and so we bought sample trays with eight different brews to sample........a couple I rather liked!

From there we went up on the hill in town to the Stone Hill Winery.....a winery that has been there for years and years......and it includes a restaurant and really nice tasting room with lots of wine gifts, etc. The wines there were also good.....and by the time we were through there....after sitting and having some wine and beer in the corner of the restaurant.....it was time for us to get back down into town to our dinner reservations at Trapper's Grill.

The service was very good, but the food was outstanding!!!!!! We were there over two hours as we ordered appetizers, drinks, and then our entrees. I had the Wienerschnitzel which was on a bed of home-made sauerkraut, and the veal was covered in a delicious sauce. WOW.......a terrific dinner.......with attention to details in all aspects. Well worth a drive to have dinner there.......give it a try!!

Leaving Andrew and Laura, Mark and Carly(sp?)......as they were spending the night in one of the many, many B&B's there, we returned to Dr. Jeni's. The evening had gone by sooooo quickly....guess that is what happens when you are having sooooo damn much fun........always soooo great to spend some time with Andrew and Laura!!!!!!

A great day and evening....just terrific!!!!!!!! And....as always after one of these perfect days......

LIFE IS JUST REALLY INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
