Dec 13, 2009, Sunday: Back to Cape G. for piano recital!!

Before I brag about today's recital.......let's walk it back to last night:

We attended the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority's annual Christmas dinner party.....along with many other members and spouses. The holiday event was held at the home of Judge Rob Fulton and Karen.......and it was the perfect house for the large number of members and spouses who were there.

Drinks and appetizers began the evening around 6pm......and the fun began then. Later, the ladies laid out the many different veggie and salad bowls laden with great food.....which all accompanied the beef brisket. As usual when there is food around this sorority, there wasn't very much that was left over.......! Dessert was available and disappeared rather quickly.

Afterwards.......someone began singing some Christmas carols/songs....and before long, with the help of some of the drinks from before the dinner, everyone was enjoying this unexpected home-made music. And then.....Santa Claus arrived, ringing his "school bell" and "Ho Ho Hoing" as he made his way through the large family room and found himself a place to sit in front of the fireplace. Before long.......the "secret sister" gifts were being presented, opened, and lots of "ooo's and ohhs" were heard as each sorority sister and spouse unwrapped their gifts while the rest of the group sat and watched.....and made a few x-rated remarks about a few of the adult gifts presented the guys!!.......all made in great fun!!!!

With soooo many there, this took almost two hours.....and then the party began to break up, as the "old folks" felt the need to return to the security of their homes, meds, and their beds!! Everyone, as usual, enjoyed the evening.....and much appreciation is due to Rob and Karen as there just isn't a better home in the area for a party of this size!!!

TODAY:

After a somewhat relaxed morning....the 1st Lady and I headed to Cape Girardeau once again......this time to attend the 1st piano recital for our 11 year old granddaughter, Rachel. It was held at one of the smaller churches in Cape......and with 14 piano students, it took about 45 minutes or so for the entire program in the church sanctuary. Following the program, there was a small reception in one of the halls of the church for the students and their families.

Rachel did a beautiful performance. Not only did she perform a great solo, but also played two duets, one with another little girl...and the other one with her mother, Becky. We were sooooooooo proud of her....and, with the experience I have had during my music years.....all of my Life.......I can tell she really has talent.....and I know she will be developing it as the years go by!!

Since today is Becky's birthday, we all went to Texas Roadhouse for an early dinner. As the 1st Lady's birthday is Wednesday, BD cards were exchanged with enclosed gifts. We had a good dinner....and a good time!

We parted ways at that point and Becky and Rachel left for St Louis to spend the night with her Dad. The reason??????????????????

Rachel is flying to New York City in the morning by herself!!!!!!! (Uncle) Jeremy and Anne-Marie, who live in Hartford, CT, are providing this trip to her so that she can experience the Holiday atmosphere and decorations in the world's greatest city. Not having been there, she is really excited and looking forward to seeing sooo much: the BIG Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, going ice skating in the rink below the tree, seeing the State of Liberty, FAO Schwartz, and many other famous sites in NYC!!!! On Saturday, all three will fly back to STL to be here for the 1st Lady's family's annual Christmas weekend at the Quality Inn and Suites in Hannibal. Then......Jeremy/Anne-marie will go to Mobile, Alabama, for her family's Christmas and will return to F'town on the 27th for our Christmas here.

As with everyone....it is a BUSY time. I/we have every day this week scheduled with appointments, dinner parties, truck serviced, the 1st Lady's medical procedure, former students dropping by for visits, I have to help judge a story telling evening at the Bauhaus Kaffee shop in Farmington on Tuesday evening, and many other things will keep us going strong....or, wear us out completely!!!!

And sooooo, two great days completed.......an incredible week ahead for Rachel in NYC, and...as always.....

LIFE IS JUST REALLY INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
