May 14, 2009: Day 7 of "Inland Hurricane Misery"

Well....it was a beautiful morning, mid-day, and afternoon!!!!! At least, the weather was super, albeit it did get really quite warm and humid when we working in the yard.....but, with all of the wet land around us, what else can be expected??? Surely it wouldn't be DRY SKIN!!!!

It seems like we are up and going just so we can get outside and see if anything has changed out there.....! And.....it is always...nada!!! Nothing!!! The same as last night, EXCEPT....it rained and all of the deep holes made by our trees being taken down and removed to the side of the street....all of those holes were FILLED with water. It just doesn't drain as the ground is soooooo soaked and squishy that we made begin to breed mosquitoes!!!

Soooo, after my Fr. Roast coffee....I went looking for the Ortho Mosquito-B-Gon......the best mosquito killer with very few returning little devils after using it regularly about once every two weeks. Well.......I don't have any, Lowe's nor Home Depot....the locals don't have it....and the only place we could locate it online was at Amazon.com. OK....the price was WAAAYYYY high as I suppose they are no longer manufacturing it. I loved this as you just attach your hose, spray it around the fence(no longer there now), the hostas(no longer there now), on/under the large Azalea bush(still there but limp and leaning)....and other places. Soooo, if of you have a thought on which brand of mosquito preventer to use on lawns, bushes, etc., .......let me know...ok??

The day was basically spent outside in the yard.....I mowed an area where it was becoming soooooo long that it was difficult to get through as it was very wet from the night rains. But.....with more rain coming tonight tomorrow and tomorrow night, I needed to get this done. I also had a leak in the garage....sooo, I took the tar stuff up and patched around where I thought it might be seeping in. Our garage was only recently had a completely new ceiling and walls with drywall taped and painted....and soooo, I am upset at this water leak which tore apart an area where it had been taped/painted. Oh well....guess it can be fixed as usual.

We did have some people from the Southern Baptist Convention come by to see our damages and to see if we would like some help with the tree that still need to be removed. And.....we certainly accepted!!! But.....the time is not certain....it could be much later.....as we certainly are not a priority 1 category as some others really are......they really need help.

And soooo, the trees remain on the curb, the stacks become higher and higher. The downed and halved 100 year old maple in the front yard remains just that......in the front yard! No one knows when, or even IF, the city will take care of these trees for us and others!!!??? THAT seems to be the problem.........

We never know anything for certain.....just word of mouth, but is that mouth the truth???? Or, is it just another statement that has been picked up and passed on to others, like myself??? Sort of like that old game where you would sit in a circle and then pass on a statement in your right ear to the person on your left's right ear.....and then see how the statement changed by the time it made the full circle!! Sooooo, again.....I think of the poor people who went through Katrina...and how they knew nothing about what the hell was going on..........and, here we sit in a small storm ravaged community in southeast Misery.....going through the same "not knowing" Hell!!!!!!!!! Some things NEVER change!!!!!

Tomorrow I need to check to see if the paperwork and interview we had 2-3 days ago is the same as what we need to have completed for FEMA......if not, we will go through that process all over again. There is "word" that FEMA will help with damage costs that the insurance will not cover......hmmmm.....I wonder......! I just paid out several thousand dollars yesterday to get TWO trees cut and removed.....and most of not covered by insurance. AND.....several more trees that MUST come down and be removed from here......$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!

Soooo, the rains return, the ground becomes soggier....and any leaning trees or poles will then come down! 5800 people/residences still do not have any electricity.....some right here in town. The curfew remains from dusk to dawn, the meal kitchens remain open and serve many of the poor and hungry.......and the "official" information is changed sometimes as often as hourly with no notification. Life here in Fredericktown and in this area of southeast Misery goes on.........

LIFE IS GOOD(???depends on your situation here).....And, I hope it is really, really GREAT for you!!!!!
