Day 19: MEXICO ON A BEAUTIFL DAY!!!!

I CAN’T believe it…….I was almost blinded by the sunlight today. About noon, the sun emerged from behind the clouds……..and WOW…..it was incredible!!! When we came down here to the RGV we never anticipated the horrendous weather we have had this past week……..and from talking with many others who have been here in the winters for many years, this is definitely the worst January in the past five years….at least!!!

We had left the park and were heading for a shopping trip to find a new printer for the computer in TheHowserHouse. BUT….we had just left when we saw, and felt, the sun…..and so we quickly changed our plans and headed down the highway for the very short drive to the border. I/we didn’t want to be shopping in stores when the sky was turning blue and the sun was warming this area…..finally.

It only took a few minutes until we were parking the truck….cost is $1.50.…and walking across the bridge and we entered Mexico. Again….as before, we were assaulted with the crowded streets, overly-crowded sidewalks, and many, many stalls along the sidewalks selling tons and tons of silver jewelry, blankets, and handbags.

We did some looking….popping in and out of shops we had not visited last weekend….and spending a bit more time checking prices on Tequila, vanilla, and a few other items. We also check the prices on a couple of drug medications that my mother is needing now, which are pretty expensive for her monthly dosages. HA……the most expensive one she needs is $117 and change in the states…….and it was $56 one block south of the border!!!!! I didn’t check any others…..but sure they are just as cheap in Mexico as this particular one was.

About the middle of the afternoon we decided to have lunch/dinner. Having been told to eat at “Angel’s”……we took the elevator up to the 4th floor of this “department store”……and stepping out of the elevator we were immediately impressed by the décor of the restaurant, the waiters/servers and their immaculate white shirts, black vests and slacks…..and…hahha, a sign that said that “Culligan” water was used in all of the beverage drinks in the restaurant!!!! Guess that is good!!!!!!

We took a seat and very quickly we were being asked for our drink orders. The 1st Lady and I ordered Margaritas…frozen….and they arrived quickly. We placed our orders for late lunch/early dinner: I ordered Azteca chicken…and she ordered the Taco Plate Special. AND THEN….they brought out all of these wonderful tortilla chips and a bowl of salsa, a bowl of something that was spicy, pickled, and VERY HOT!!! And then there was a bowl of green peppers of some type. The salsa was absolutely the very best I have eaten…..EVER!!!!! I couldn’t get enough of it……it was just fantastic!!!!

When our meal was served, well……..it was just incredible!!! We both agreed that it was the very best Mexican meal we had ever, ever eaten!!!! AND….along came two more Margaritas….and did I mention??? THEY WERE SOOOOO STRONG!!!! Yummmy!!

Well, we dined and margarita’d for quite some time…….it was soooo damn good!! Everyone who was in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves….and the great food.

We finally decided it was time to move on down the street….and when the bill arrived…..all of our food and drinks came to $13.95 TOTAL!!!!!!! The drinks were only $1.00 each!!! Now that was a way to end a great meal……with a bill that was soooooo small I could hardly see it.

Leaving the restaurant and returning to the sidewalks filled…….FILLED with people. We did some shopping….and bought some Tequila, two bottles of vanilla, some crackers, cookies, and some coffee “biscuits”. We looked for a couple of other items…..but decided we would wait until later in the week when we return…….perhaps…..to EAT AGAIN????????!!!!!!!!!!

And so……we hauled our growing and heavier bodies back across the border….still feeling the effects of the strong Margaritas. We went through immigration control, and then had to pay Texas state taxes on the Tequila….and within 8 minutes after unlocking the truck in the parking lot by the Rio Grande, we were locking the truck in front of TheHowserHouse. A GOOD DAY!!!!
And so…..what do you expect me to say other than…..

LIFE IS GREAT.....and I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
