Hmmmm…..a rather short night it was…….made a phone call and heard some disturbing news, so the night went by without too much sleep. After a couple of cups of French Roast coffee…….I was feeling better and soon the 1st Lady was up and going strong, even though she, too, had been awake off and on during the night.
We left about 9:30 for the city center of Halifax…..about a 30 minute drive. Not one bit of trouble locating a place to park the large truck, the parking lot price was good ($12) and soon we were wandering aimlessly down the pier, the boardwalk, and through some of the little touristy shops on the pier. We did see something up close we had never really seen before and that was a couple of large tugboats. WOW….they were much bigger than I thought they might be, but they do push around the big guys out there in the bay, so I suppose they need to be that large……eh?
We continued to wander around, and then located the free tourist bus which makes a circle route through the city center in about 40 minutes. We boarded the bus, enjoyed the ongoing narration of the buildings and other sites we were driving by….and then hopped off at the City’s Victorian Gardens. Here again, we walked around and enjoyed the landscaping and the many flowers and little ponds/lakes that were worked carefully into the overall design of the gardens.
From there we walked down the main shopping area……not of high class stores, but of a rather eclectic type shops and boutiques. Fun to look at but nothing we would really purchase……
We enjoyed looking in at a couple of churches along the walk down the street…..and later an old cemetery that is right in the center of the downtown, city center. Then…..we decided to have a little lunch…..and found an Irish Pub with some great sounding pub food…..and soon, we were enjoying a beer and some good food. Sitting outside on the sidewalk, this little pub was really quite nice……and the food was a bit above average. Nothing amazing, but just good food!
We then walked around some more…..and soon it was going on 4 pm…..and so we went and picked up the truck….and soon began the stop and go of the rush hour traffic here in Halifax. And…..it took an hour to return to TheHowserHouse…….twice as long as it took to get downtown!!! It is a really nice older city center….but it really good shape…..and most of the buildings are occupied with businesses!!!
Not too much happened today….just a relaxing day looking at the city center….and having a good little lunch. We opted out of a seafood restaurant for dinner tonight….and decided to give that a “go” tomorrow when we are in Peggy’s Cove on our day trip out of Halifax.
We had a little bowl of ice cream at THH and soon we were kicked backed and relaxed. Once again…..I need to make a phone call….tried once, but no answer, so will give it another try about 11pm our time here…..9pm in CDT. Tomorrow should be another great day………and today’s wanderings and lunch reassured me that…..
LIFE IS REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!….And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
