WOW….it was an early awakening for this sagging hulk of me…..at 6AM!!! Yep….I rarely pull myself out of the bed at that time….however, today was a travel day and one that required we get TheHowserHouse on the road early(at least for us). I scurried around with the morning rituals, poured my 1st cup of French Roast…and then headed outside to begin the dumping routine, as well as the stabilizing jacks…and other odd tasks that must be completed prior to going down/up the road.
The 1st Lady was also up and going early…for her. While I would outside doing my “chores”, she was up and getting things in order for the slides to be pulled in….so, we could get going………..
Pete came over while I was doing these tasks….and we chatted briefly, but he knew that we were in sort of a rush……..because…….we had to take a ferry from Prince Edward Island over across the Northumberland Strait to Nova Scotia. The ferries only run every 1.5 hours…..and who knows how busy they might be??? NO one…..and so it is best to get there in the mornings before the rush of the day begins.
We completed the tasks…..backed up the truck and hitched THH to the truck…..and then said our good-byes with Pete……..always hard to do that with such a good friend! And then……out of the cg we went and for the next 1.5 hours we traveled across the PEI….on the narrow little roads I have discussed on an earlier post. Each little road looks like any other…..and soon all of the little villages all begin to look alike.
We arrived at the port where the ferry departs from……..paid our $105.00 for TheHowserHouse to be brought on board…..and then with only about a five minute wait with the engine shut down……we were told to pull forward and soon we were easing our way through the LARGE opening in the front of this LARGE ship/ferry…and into the dark cavity of the innards of this ship. WOW……can this baby ever hold a huge quantity of semis, trucks, RV’s, and cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHEW!!!!! And…..it is really difficult to believe just how fast they can load soooooo many vehicles onto this boat.
And, almost before we had locked THH and truck, and made our way up to the top deck by elevator…..the ferry was on it’s way….and pulling out from behind the breakwater barriers and into the Northumberland Strait. BLUE, BLUE, BLUE…..and gorgeous. I found the nearest coffee bar down one deck from where we were observing the sea…and the dot of land on the other side….Nova Scotia……and was soon sipping the dark rich coffee as we sailed across the Strait.
Smooth…….only a dip now and then….and the 1st Lady didn’t even mention feeling the slight swells as we pushed our way through and across this wide expanse of clear blue waters. It was difficult to take my eyes away from this sight……..it was soooo pleasant and enjoyable for the next 1.5 hours. Hardly before we realized it, the announcement was made for all drivers to return to their vehicles below…..and to prepare for docking and driving onto Nova Scotia. And……soooo we did!
We had hardly got to THH and the truck…and the huge front of the ship opened and there we were…..looking at the docks of Nova Scotia and then……through the belly of the ship we drove and in only a minute we were back in the sunlight and driving up the ramp and onto the highway that would take us to northern Nova Scotia.
Driving through forests, beautiful meadows and green, green farmlands, we soon had covered the 125 miles to Baddeck, NS. This is the jumping off spot for the John Cabot Trail…….a highway that goes around the northern part of this island…and is one of the most scenic drives in the world!!! THAT is why we came over here…..to make that 193 mile drive….but, of course, without TheHowserHouse in tow.
The weather forecast is for 90% chance of rains tomorrow along the Cabot Trail….so, we are in the process of making some rain plans. We arrived at Baddeck Campground…..and soon were checking in and getting out assigned site for the next three nights. It wasn’t long before TheHowserHouse was backed into it’s little home for the next three days…….and I began the tasks of hooking up the cords, hoses, etc., etc. to put our little home-on-wheels back together. AND……..OMG, it was hotter than hell here!!!!!! Couldn’t believe it!!!! Soooooo hot and very humid….JUST like Missouri in the summer.
After about 30 minutes I was finished and then we had a late lunch inside…..and kicked back for a little while. We did find that the Wifi was really spotty…..and just not very good. THAT is the way that most Wifi’s are here in Canada…..things do need to be updated in the campgrounds of our great friend to the north!!!
I did get the pictures posted from yesterday……..by going to the “hotspot” outside the laundry…..and will probably have to do the same for this post!!!! TOOOOOOO many people using the Wifi in most RV’s around here…..and it is tooooo damn slow to get anything uploaded.
The day has been very good…….the drive to the ferry, the ferry crossing, the drive to Baddeck, and the remainder of the day here in the cg just relaxing and visiting with people. Sure hope it doesn’t rain……but, guess we will make the best of it.
LIFE IS REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!!…And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
