Day 46: A great day trip....even though it was gray and foggy

We slept in for a bit longer than usual.....it was soooo dark outside. When I did get up, I realized that it was really foggy outside, hence the darkness that had invaded THH. After my Fr. Roast cups of coffee, I awakened the 1st Lady and soon we were preparing to leave for a day trip. We had planned to go to Peggy's Cove....but, we changed and spent the first couple of hours or so driving down and around the little peninsula just south of there which is bordered by Mahone Bay on the south and Margarets Bay on the north.

Well, it might have been an absolutely stunning drive, but it WAS foggy. We made a few stops for a "look", but our eyes could not penetrate the fog, so eventually we just drove over the narrow, twisting little road that encircled the peninsula.

This road, after curving around returned to the mainland and then connected with the little road that led us to Peggy's Cove.....a unique fishing village, to say the least! None of the 40 or so little houses are lined up on streets....they are all sitting on huge granite rocks.....rocks which have made this place so different than other fishing villages. These rocks reminded me of the area we live close to in Misery........but, that is the only thing this familiar. The little houses are painted different colors and this little village has become a tourist mecca!!!!

There was barely any place to park at the entrance to this little place....soooo many cars and trucks all parked in the Visitor Center. We did manage to squeeze and back into a space...and then we locked and left it.....and walked through the village which is spread out over a couple of granite hills. People everywhere!!!! And.....then the charter buses began to roll in......bringing people whose cruise ships had docked for a few hours in Halifax!!!!! Yep.....invasion of the cruisers!!!

We enjoyed this place immensely, but would have liked to have seen less tourist.....a LOT LESS tourists! The little fishing boats were docked and anchored.....and some were bringing in their buoys and ropes.....curling the ropes on the dock/piers and most were of different colors!!?? Not certain why......

We decided to have a late lunch......and went to the only restaurant in the village.......and was it ever busy!!!!!! Whew!!! We did get a table by the window....however, the fog kept us from seeing the Lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean.....DAMN!!! We both had Fish and Chips.......a wonderful serving of three pieces of FRESH Haddock.....and OMG......it was soooooooo wonderful!!!!!! The french fries were just ok.......but the great light fish made up for the fries....no doubt about that!!!

Afterwards we walked/climbed over the granite boulders to the shore....or at least above the shore....it was all huge, huge boulders and we couldn't/wouldn't get that close to the crashing waves!!!!! Huge waves rolling and there were signs all around saying to stay back....be aware.....rogue waves oftentimes rolled in......deaths have occurred there.....etc., etc., etc. Get the picture?? It was pretty damn dangerous there! But.....in the fog, it was quite beautiful. I can barely imagine what it would have been like had the sun and blue sky been there .....and the blue of the ocean....WOW. Perhaps I need to return here some day?????

We sat around on the boulders for a while.......watching people...and watching the crashing and splashing of the waves on the boulders below. Then, returning to the truck, we drove the 30 miles back to THH.....and by that time it was almost 5pm. A FULL day's trip.......

Tonight, I have been researching campgrounds for the trip back into the states. I have found one only 15 minutes from Bar Harbor, Maine...beginning on Sunday night....and now I only have to secure/reserve one for the halfway point....somewhere in New Brunswick for the first night out from here in Halifax. We will stay near Bar Harbor for 3-4 days to enjoy that area...$$$$$...quite the 1st Class area......plus, Acadia National Park. Then.......on to Vermont and New Hampshire.

OK.....foggy, gray, unique...quaint Peggy's Cove.....and a great day trip!!! The one thing that I have neglected to discuss is that there are several memorials around those two coves and peninsula to the victims who were killed in the crash of Swiss Air Flt 111 a few years ago.......crashed right into the sea and killed sooooo many innocent passengers. So much was washed up onto the shoreline along that area...........

A great day........and our days in Canada are dwindling down....however,.....

LIFE IS SOOOOOOOO GREAT!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
