Day 48: A wonderful day on the coast....and with friends from Fredericktown!!!

Ahhhh,.....the clouds were thick above us....and it had rained hard during the night....and so it was quite dark when I awoke. I carefully got into my usual almost-vertical position, took care of the morning rituals, and then went downstairs and made my dark and rich French Roast coffee. As usual, I checked the emails, read a couple of papers online....and then awakened the 1st Lady at 8am, as she had requested.

We had our breakfast, more coffee for me and fresh hot tea for her, and then we just puttered around for awhile.....hoping that the clouds would disappear before we left on our day trip to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. And......by the time we left a bit before noon, they were beginning to show signs of breaking up....and by the time we had driven the 50 miles to Mahone Bay, the sun was shining and there was much blue sky to enjoy!!!

We made a stop at Mahone Bay.....looking inside the quaint little Anglican Church there.....and as we have noticed, the outside of the Anglican churches are beautifully detailed with their standard black and white paint. They are sooooo wonderful to just look at and to admire!!!!! Amazing!!!

We found a little Biscuit and Coffee Shop and I purchased a cappuccino, which was really very, very good. The foam was very thick and the expresso was quite dark and rich....and as always I requested that it be made "on the dry side".......and it was done perfectly!!! WOW....this does not happen very often.

We then drove around the little village for a few blocks and then continued our journey on across the peninsula to Lunenbug!! OMG.....what a marvelous little fishing village on such a beautiful bay with soooooo many gorgeous tall ships and smaller sailing boats. And...the houses!!!!!! This is a UN World Heritage Site.....and it most certainly deserves that distinction!!!!! Such incredible houses.....almost all 2-3 stories tall...and all painted in all shockingly bright colors with accented details of contrasting colors!!! I just couldn't get enough of them!!! The negative side was that there are very few pictures because the little streets are soooooo narrow that there was no place to park my large truck,......so, I have a couple but they do not do the justice of these wonderful homes in all their glory.

We did find a place to park near the pier....and WOW!!!! The Bluenose II was at the pier....this is it's home base.....and so we were able to go aboard and walk around on the top deck. This tall masted ship is usually on tour....it had been in Quebec City for the big 400th birthday party of Quebec, but we never did get to see when we were in the city that weekend. Since then, it has been to Amsterdam, The Netherlands in Europe and back......and takes groups out around the bay and into the ocean for a couple of hours each day. The cruise was sold out for this afternoon so we did not get to sail on it......DAMN!!!

After that we had a wonderful lunch on the pier at a restaurant where we could eat outside on the pier.....and it was a wonderful hour there. I had an exquisite "Bluenoser Seafood Bake".....a small casserole with lobster, crab, scallops, and clams swimming in a roasted red pepper cream sauce, accompanied by some wonderful roasted fresh potatoes and mixed steamed veggies(green beans, wax beans and baby carrots). THIS was the highlight of the past few days of my dining.....it was just fabulous!!!!! And....it was only $17.95.....a wonderful price for this type of meal!!!! The 1st Lady had seafood cakes covered by a wonderful sauce.......it was very good, however, we BOTH agreed that the Seafood Bake which I ordered was the "winner" of this meal.

Finishing the meal, we ambled around the shopping area, visiting Art Galleries, boutiques of various themes, and many touristy shops. After about an hour......we picked up the truck and drove around some more....and then out to the "point" and back. Then.......

We went to the campground where Bob and Janet Seabaugh from F'town were staying....they had just arrived this morning. The are on a Caravan of RV's who are touring the northeast USA and the "Maritime Provinces".....New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and they are now headed with the Caravan to Newfoundland by ferry. It was just GREAT to see them....and to spend a couple of hours with glasses of wine and appetizers at their motorhome with them!!!!! As we began to discuss our trips, we soon sat there in shock as we discovered that we had both been at the very same campground in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island....at the very SAME TIME!!!!!!!!! Yep, we were all there together and just didn't realize it!!!! Can't believe it....!!! In fact, we have just missed them a couple of times by only a day in our wanderings over the Maritimes......!!!!

We left them with hugs and warm farewells....and drove the 50 miles back to WoodHaven Campground just outside of Halifax where we have been most of this week. The Seabaughs will arrive here on Monday for a stay before heading north and on to Newfoundland.....and we are leaving in the morning for Sussex, New Brunswick......an overnight stay on the journey down to the Bar Harbor, Maine area of the state.

It has been a wonderful day......we have seen some beautiful places today....we have a great dinner, and we have spent a bit of time with good friends from home.......it can't get much better than this, soooooo.......

LIFE IS INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
