Day 42: 10 x WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT can I say????? We returned this evening from an eleven hour drive around the Cabot Trail…….and, there are no words that describe the incredible beauty, the ruggedness, the awe that one feels………I just do not believe that I have ever seen such stunning sights in many, many years!!!!

We left here this morning at 9am….and drove northward….counterclockwise on the Trail…….and before long the Atlantic Ocean sights and sounds were beyond belief as we drove along the edge of cliffs, bluffs, and then would plunge down to the shoreline level. Then…..upwards we go, twisting and turning and ascending very, very steep and hairpin roads…..and soon, another incredible view would come into sight…..and our mouths would drop again!

I do not know….and cannot explain….this trip……there just are not the superlatives that can be used to accurately explain today. Overwhelmed, I am….I am! I took 80 pictures during the 11 hour trip….and will not be able to get them all online tonight…but perhaps over a 2-3 nights I might get them all posted. And…….I will guarantee that the pictures do not even begin to show the colors and the feel of just being there to see this.

The day was gorgeous….which certainly helped with the colors of the ocean. And…..the sun and blue, blue sky was with us until the late afternoon when we were driving down the west side of Cape Breton. I am sunburned from just spending sooo much time in the sun looking….and looking …..and looking at the views from as many angles as possible.

We began to see the same people…..as we hop scotched from one viewpoint to another….and soon we were becoming acquainted with some of them. We talked with one couple from CT……and then a threesome from Ontario….and over the course of many hours, we laughed, we stood awe….and we enjoyed the company of each other as we traveled around the 190 mile loop of rough, two-lane paved roads.

We lunched at Neil’s Harbour….and with us there was the couple from CT sitting next to us. They, too, were just as amazed at what we were seeing as we were. At the little seafood café…..more like a seafood shack…..we ate the best seafood chowder we have yet had…..and I also had fried scallops….WOW….WOW!!!! Sooooo damn good!!!

Then during the afternoon, we spent several viewpoints visiting with the two ladies and gentleman from Ontario……and later during the afternoon, they had us try some wonderful Lemon-pepper Smoked Mackerel….which was also really, really great!!!

As approached the town of Cheticamp we saw a sign for the Restaurant Acadien…..and yep….we stopped there for another wonderful supper!!!! We both had the Meat Pie……pulled pork and beef in a light sauce that was cooked inside a wonderful pastry in a pie pan. OMG…..it was sooooo good!!!!! Then for dessert, I had blueberry pudding covered and dripping in a brown sugar sauce…and the 1st Lady had a raisin pudding in the same wonderful, warm sauce. OH SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!

We returned from this eleven hour day at 8pm…..exhausted and very worn out….but still an awe at this wonderful scenic drive…..one of the top drives in the world…..and rightly so!

I will attempt to post some pictures tonight…..LATE…when no one is using the Wifi, hopefully. Not all pictures can be uploaded tonight……and I still have a few from yesterday’s activities that you have not seen, but will attempt to get them on tonight. I can only upload ONE picture at a time……so just be patient! This Wifi…..well, it is pretty bad, but at least we DO have it…..right???

I have tried to say it in every way…..but today stumps my brain……however,…..

LIFE IS SOOOOOOO INCREDIBLY GREAT…..REALLY!!!!!!…..And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!
