Tunica to Hattiesburg

After a really good nights sleep at Sam’s Towne RV Park……I was up, coffee in hand AND in my thermos, and after detaching the umbilical cords, I hooked up TheHowserHouse and pulled onto Mississippi Hwy 304, heading east towards I-55.

It is at least 25 miles or more over to 55 and I drove down this two lane road, without shoulders, through beautiful green trees and past gorgeous homes….most of the relatively new. Homes of the workers of all of the many Casinos???? Anyway……I would love to have been able to look a little closer as I drove by, by the amount of traffic heading west made me keep my eyes on the road constantly.

There was a very small town, Hernando, that I had to drive through to get to I-55, and OMG, they didn’t design the Hwy for large rigs!!!!!! In order to continue east, I had to go three-fourths of the way around the court house in the middle of the town square…….sound familiar??? That is the way it is in F’town, too. BUT….much narrower with islands inserted in the road and finally by the time I was to turn east again, the only way I could make the 90 degree turn was to let my rear wheels on the RH side roll over the corner of the sidewalk!! No harm……to anything, but some beads of concerned sweat appeared on my balding head.

From there on south, it was a piece of cake! From the Casino to Hattiesburg it was 388 miles…..well, not quite that much as I measure it from when I bought gas last night until I bought gas this evening after driving around west Hattiesburg. I am currently “at home” in the Shady Cove RV Park, just 5 miles north of Hattiesburg on Hwy 49. I have a pic that I took after getting everything attached and the truck detached. Very wooded, and consequently, VERY hot and humid with NO breeze of any kind……UGH!!!! To extract myself and TheHowserHouse from this campground may prove to very, very interesting in the morning…….perhaps a few more beads of concerned sweat on my head??? Many close trees to the only way out of here and several rather sharp turns to make before getting to the Hwy 49. It will be a challenge, to say the least!!! THEN…..I have to head across two northbound lanes of heavy traffic going north from the Gulf coastline….about 75 miles south of here……and after crossing those lanes I hope I can get ALL of me into the lane in the median so I can turn left and head back into H’burg. Hope it isn’t raining!!!!! OOPSSSSSS…..it is beginning to rain now….DAMN!!

Soooo, as the drops of rain knock on the top of TheHowserHouse, I am watching TV by using the antenna…..no cable here, NOR Wifi!!! Wow…..what’s wrong with the places here in the South…….don’t they know what Wifi is, and that it is an amenity we travelers desire AND need????!!! Shame on them!!!

Dr. Jeni, Ava, Meghan, Rachel, and the 1st Lady finally left the Moser Estate headed for TheHowserHouse. They should arrive tomorrow evening. Just talked with them and they plan to probably overnight in Memphis if they don’t run into tooooooo much rain on the road.

And……as always…..

Life is Great……and I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
