Tue, Wed, Thurs, Sept 21,22,23,2010: Great trip....Philadelphia is wonderful!!!!

Tues......we left Huntington about 8:30am......drove through the West Virginia mountains all morning, driving then into the western panhandle of Maryland, and then northward a few miles into southern Pennsylvania...and soon we arrived at my good friend's (Bill) lovely home. It was great to see him and his wife, Ellen.......the last time was last fall in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

All afternoon and into the evening we visited, laughed, and also toured his country home, the grounds, his antique Desoto car.....and just caught up on all of the news from his family!!! GREAT fun.....and sooooo great to visit with him and Ellen once again!!!! She prepared a lovely dinner for us and, we never stopped talking all evening long.

Wed......we had breakfast out in their "pagoda" at the rear of their home.....a great breakfast and again, more wonderful talks. Late in the morning we drove over to Gettysburg and since we had all toured the battlefield many times, we did walk around the quaint little town and visited many of the shops there. A bit later we went to the new Gettysburg Visitors Center, watched a great History Channel film about the battle, saw the Cyclorama, and then toured the museum. WOW.....you must not miss these three things if you are ever there!!!!!!!!! Soooooo well done, sooooo well thought out......just great presentations!!!

We stopped at a superb Irish Restaurant on the way back to Bill's home....and had a wonderful dinner!!!!! Just a great meal!!!!! A perfect ending to a wonderful day!!!!!

Thursday......this morning we left a bit before 9AM......drove north about 50 miles and took the Pennsylvania Turnpike eastward and arrived in Philadelphia a bit after 12 noon. We located our hotel.....a Comfort Inn.....which is right at the edge of the historical section of this wonderful city center!!!! There is ample parking and the rooms are nice and large. We drove through the various city center districts and then returned to park the car. Calling our daughter-in-law, we soon had a knock on the door and there she was!!! Sooooo great to see her again!!!

Before long, we were walking through the historical center, past the Besty Ross home, and then visited the Liberty Bell in the center of this part of the town. We had quite a walk....and eventually reached Jeremy and her apartment......in a gorgeous new apartment building.....just four WOW's do not describe it!!! We had purchased some wine and so we sat around, talking, and enjoying the good wine.

Before too long, Jeremy arrived from his job.....today he was in the studio filming and editing the political commercial for the television......part of his job, as well as writing and directing the commercials.

EXHAUSTED AND NEED SOME REST, sooooo to be continued on Friday!!!! STAY TUNED!!

LIFE IS REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!

Philly is great fun! If you can get out there in mid-December, have J get you tix for the Army v. Navy football game. Outstanding event, even for the casual college football fan. Best wishes for continued fun and safe travels. - B. McKenney
