Sat, Mar 13, 2010: GREAT SEAFOOD!!!

SATURDAY……

Ahhh……what a beautiful morning!!!!!! Sitting here in the rv park, under the tall, tall pine trees and a few palm trees, away from the Spring Break crowds a mile or two from here……it was just sooooo relaxing and a perfect place to enjoy my Fr. Roast cup(s) of coffee.
Late morning, we decided to drive across the bridge to Panama City and drove around along the beach/bay frontage road to the Marina areas. WOW…..the winds were howling across the Bay….and on the beaches the surf was running 6 feet high with the 25-30 mph winds coming in from the ocean!! CHILLY, it was!!!!!

We went to the Historical area of the Panama City and spent a couple of hours walking along the main street…but, there was very little to see. We did stop in an Antique Store that was the largest antique place I have ever encountered!!!!!! Must have spent an hour or more in there……and I am NOT a fan of antiques!!!!! We did come upon an “antique” postcard collection, divided by state and city……and OMG, there were about 40 or so from the Lake of the Ozarks, MO area. We purchased a few…..just to have for ourselves. Great fun to see those!!!
Then we found a highly recommended seafood place that several locals had talked to us about……Hunt’s Seafood and Oyster Bar. This is a very small place, but we could see all of the cars/trucks with Florida plates, so we KNEW that the locals eat here…..always a place to eat for us! Well, we waited about 1.5 hours on the sidewalk to get a table for two………WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!

After talking with a guy in front of us in the line, we ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell……baked oysters with lemon, garlic, pepper and Parmesen cheese…..and OMG, OMG!!!!!! These were the best oysters I have ever eaten………and these one dozen were only $7.00!!!!! A dozen raw oysters cost only $4.75.……..unheard of in Missouri. And….they had just been brought in on the boats this morning!!!! We then ordered sandwiches……should have ordered some more baked oysters…..I ordered a fried grouper sandwich and the 1st Lady got a sautéed shrimp/mushroom po-boy sandwich…..and she went into fits of ecstasy when she first begin to eat it…..”the best seafood I have ever, ever eaten”, she replied with a huge smile!!!!! Soooo, ANOTHER recommendation from us: HUNT’S SEAFOOD AND OYSTER BAR. It is not, not, not, not fancy….just an oyster place even though the outside has been modeled, it was opened in 1966 and is still owned by the same original family!!!! GET YOURSELF THERE WHEN IN THE PANAMA CITY area!!!!!!!

On the return trip back….11 miles, such a long way…..we drove a different way and ran into soooooooooooooo many Saturday Spring Breakers on the road….and so we inched along for an hour before we could get away from the traffic jams!!! Back at the rv park, we just laid back and relaxed some more……STILL stuffed from a delicious late lunch!!!! The evening was spent just being a veggie……..and watching a couple of movies on the cable tv.
A GREAT day…….and, of course, as always……

LIFE IS JUST INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!!….And, I hope it is for all of you!!!

Sounds like a fantastic experience!

Satisfying moments like that come two few times in life. I think we should all live to the fullest to experience all that we can in this short life we have. There is a place near Essex Conn. I have been to that your story reminds me of. Just a small place that you would never find on your own. We have friends up there. We were eating lunch the first time up there some years ago when Sen. Chris Dodd walked by with someone he was helping to get elected. You can tell it was a local favorite when someone takes their political campaign there. I do like the fact that you can see beauty in everyday things. If we miss the everday, we miss the miracle of life!
