Mar 15,2010/Monday: Yesterday.....a day trip south of here...

Yesterday morning....Sunday....we left the rv park about noon....and headed into Panama City and then south along the coast. Our destination was Mexico Beach.....a small beach community about 36 miles from here. It take longer than anticipated as going through PC took a long time...no way to go around it, at least to my knowledge.

Then...just as you go south out of PC....southeast, that is.....you enter Tyndall AFB and that REALLY slows you down...as it is a LONG way through the base...miles and miles of forested land that belongs to the USAF there. We soon were in Mexico Beach after leaving the Air Force base.....and drove through it, and then turned around and parked, accessing the beach at one of the MANY beach access boardwalks/stairs, with ample parking parallel with the highway.

WELL......the winds were horrific along the coast, but we took our picnic things with us and went down to the beach. Spreading a couple of towels, we sat down and immediately noticed that we were being covered in the very, very fine white sand of the beach.....as the winds were whipping it up and and around everything. It didn't take long before we noticed that our sandwiches were quite gritty....hahaha....the sand was getting inside the sandwiches......UGH!! And.....our drink cans were also getting covered with the white gritty sand. Sooooo, we quickly finished and packed up our things, returning to the truck with sand in our hair and eyes.....haha. WHAT a picnic on the beach!!!! Actually the beach was on our picnic!!!!!

We drove on down the cloast to Port St. Joe.....and then took the little road out towards a state park out on a small peninsula that leads to Cape Blas. Lots of beach homes....new ones....out there and it was fun to see how they are built to withstand the water/sand/salt, but looking gorgeous where they are sitting on the waterfront!!! A great place to spend a summer.....but not at this time of the year........still just waaaayyyy tooooo cool!!!!!

Soooo, the afternoon was winding down and we were in the EDT zone.....so, we turned around and started back to the rv park. Stopping again in Mexico Beach, we got a couple of delicious ice cream cones from one of the local small tourist businesses there!!!! Stopped again to take some pics and then scurried on back through Tyndall AFB again, stopped at a Walmart in Pan. City for a few items....and returned to the rv park about 6:30pm.

It was a beautiful day, excepf for the WINDS of 25-30 mph!!!! UGH.....will they never ever stop????? Everyone down here is complaining about them, also.....not just us seniors!! Oh well.....they will probably stop when we leave here next Monday, won't they????

Sooooo, even with the winds, even with being covered in gritty sand, even if the beach covered our picnic........as always.....

LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
