Day 25: An easy, wet trip to Quebec City

THURSDAY:

Bonjour/Bon Nuit, mes amis!!!

Up at 7am……morning rituals completed quickly.….and then the rains came pattering down…softly. And, of course, as always.…..this was traveling day, moving THH up to the Quebec City area which is slightly over 200 miles.

I quickly put on my driving clothes..….and began dodging drops of rain as I began the job of getting ready. I had to remove the front wheels of the bikes, store them the basement, and then put the bikes in the bed of the truck in front of the hitch and behind the cab, and then lock them in. Then…….I check the pressure in all eight tires of the rig…and they were all just exactly perfect..…..110 lbs in the rv and 80 in the truck.

I woke up the 1st Lady and she began to get ready to move. After she showered I opened the valves of the three holding tanks: grey(bath water), galley tank, and the black tank. After they were drained…..and I flushed out the black tank with several gallons of water..…I then put the sewer hose away, unscrewed the water hose, and left the electrical cord until after the slides were put away.

And so..…..there were things inside that I usually do, also.…..and a lot of checking on cabinet doors to assure myself that they were closed snugly, and then began storing the loose items in the den, etc., etc. I was already to go…..ready to bring in the four slides, but the 1st Lady was finishing up some billing work for our son-in-law’s business. Then……….

Charles and Katherine came by..…bringing some strawberry jelly!!!!! Can’t wait to make some toast tomorrow.….. We said our goodbyes……hugs and kisses…..and then they left, not to be seen again until January when we all return to the RGV as Winter Texans!!

I hooked up THH….and soon, I was inching out of the site, down the narrow lane to the exit of the RV Park, and around two 90 degree bends in the lane. And then.…..TheHowserHouse was set free and we were on the road again!!

Back up and through Montreal……and it was rather dicey at times as the rains became heavier and the fog settled in, making it difficult to see very far ahead..…and THAT is not a good thing when you are towing 14,000 pounds behind you and under you are wet blacktop pavements!!!!!! However……I found my way very easily through Montreal, changing lanes like a pro.…a pro who knows French….hahahah!!! The signs are not a problem with me..….too many semesters of French years ago to forget the regular words and names.

We arrived at St. Apollinaire….about 15 minutes from Quebec City, and after a slow drive do the RV Park(never know about strange little narrow roads leading to.…??), we emerged from the forest into a LARGE RV Park!!!!! HUGE!!!!…..And, many, many people here enjoying themselves, even though it WAS raining.

After checking in at the Office, I was escorted to our site.….and egads!!!!! By that time it was POURING rain!!!! Of course, what else is new???? I have to be outside to hook all of the umbilical cords back up, and unhook THH from the truck. This time the site was not level so I brought out a board or two and put under the tires on one side of THH on the boards.….and VOILA!!!! Level it is!!

Sooooo, soon we were set up and inside TheHowserHouse…….and being a bit chilled from the cold rains, we turned on the fireplace and enjoyed it for a while. We discussed the thought of going into Quebec City tonight for the “largest display of fireworks ever to be seen in Canada”……but since they didn’t actually begin until 11:45PM tonight, we decided to give up that thought. Today…..July 3rd….is the very day that Quebec was discovered……400 years ago!!!! And, so…….tens of thousands of people were inside the walls of Old Quebec to participate in the festivities.……and I just didn’t think I wanted to find myself in traffic jams in the middle of the night when I have never been to Quebec City!!!! Would you????

Soooo, we kicked back, she made a light supper.….and then we took a walk around the RV park…..and are now relaxing with the fireplace going. It is very chilly outside!!!! We have no American TV……all but one channel is in French…..and the only internet service is $10 PER DAY!!!!! Nope……that will not happen with me!!!!!! I will attempt to locate an internet café tomorrow..…..or hotel lobby.…, etc., etc. And…..our cell phone is on roaming, so BIG Bucks to call from Canada to the states, so we are almost isolated from the world, aren’t we???? Who cares????? We can be reached if need be..….and, even though we endured the driving rains and fog today.………..

LIFE IS REALLY GREAT!!!!!…..And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
