Cruising up the Nile on a Sunday Afternoon!!!!( a paraphrased song title from my youth)
We left the dock at 8:30 this morning and began our cruise from Luxor down to Edfu by this evening. What a wonderful way to spend the day……the palm trees lining the banks of the VERY wide Nile River…..the camels along the bank, the desert attempting to sneak up to the riverbank at times…….the farm donkeys doing all of the work in the fields….NO mechanized machinery for the farmers……families doing their clothes washing on the riverbank…..little kids waving to us and yelling “Halloo”……other cruise boats passing by and the guest waving and toasting us with their drinks…….we spent the entire day on the upper level of the boat by the pools laughing, talking, taking pictures, having a few drinks……and relaxing!!!! It was a super day…..and by mid-afternoon we began to drink a bit dark red medicine….and then had some more doses……and the partying began. By 7pm, we had watched the sun go down behind the desert hills with the beautiful colors from the desert dust in the sky……and then we went down to the Dining Room for a grand dinner by candlelight with more wine….etc., etc., etc. The crew entertained us with drums, cymbals, etc., etc. and special talents like tying napkins into unique forms….I won’t go into details on the “forms”.
It was a WONDERFUL DAY!!!!!!! Our 11 member tour group became sooooo close during this day…..and I believe the many, many French people who were on the boat were a bit jealous…….don’t think they know how to have a good time….haha!! I did speak to some of them, and individually they were just wonderful….and very accepting of my weak French, but we were able to visit with each other because of my limited French.
Can it get any better than today and yesterday??????? I just don’t see how!!!!!!!!!!!!........
LIFE IS SOOOOOOOOOOOO GREAT!!!!!!…..And, I sure hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
(hope I can find some internet in Aswan by tomorrow night!!!)
