Day 21, Jan 21, 2010: WOW.....this day was another beautiful one!!!!

WELL......for all of you who are suffering with the winter woes......I really hate to say it, but today was another one of those almost perfect January days for the Rio Grande Valley!!! The high was at/around 85 degrees, the high winds of two days ago were completely gone and there were just a few little breezes.....enough to stir the palm trees just a bit. THIS is why we like to spend the winters down here, rather than in Misery!

This morning....the 1st Lady was up and going strong a little before 8am. Then....she grabbed her pink "noodle" and off she went to the pool here in the North Section. Today was aerobics in the pool.....and she spent an hour in the pool getting a different type of workout. Returning to the RV, she said she really did enjoy it....and that is great!

After she took care of her morning rituals.......we were soon off to Harlingen. Today's Mission???? To purchase a new bike for the 1st Lady......and so, we drove straight to Bicycle World on south 77. This is where I bought mine two years ago.....and when we were back here two weeks ago, she had almost made a decision about which one she wanted. Sooooo, it didn't take long today........and soon after I paid the bill of $459, we loaded it up and returned back to TheHowserHouse. Amazing how much bikes cost these days........but, then we can't ever expect things to be as cheap as they were when we were young.

I also had taken my bike with us. As I said, I purchased mine there....and so I left it with them for a "tune-up". Checking the brakes, the gear shifting, etc., etc. Should be ready sometime tomorrow.....and so, another quick trip into Harlingen.

Shortly after getting back, she was on the bike and riding it around....proud as punch! I am really glad she got it....and now, we can go with our friends on rides around the Valley. We would also like to take the tiny little ferry across the Rio Grande......it is a hand-pulled type of ferry....and then ride the mile or so to a little village. There is supposed to be a good little cafe where we can have a lunch, then ride back to the river, show our passports, and then take the tiny ferry back across to the states. Sounds like great fun.........!!!

The rest of the afternoon I spent on the completion of the washing of the RV. And....I DID finish it by 4:15. BUT, now I have the windows to wash.....and, then...OMG, the task of waxing the entire 5th wheel....all 39 feet of it!!! This will take several days.....not fun, not fun!!!

I quickly cleaned the sagging hulk of Me....and then we went over to Doug/Diane's motorcoach for Happy Hour. They had friends there for dinner....friends they had met in Prince Edward Island last summer/fall....and who are now wintering here in the RGV. We had a super time getting to know them.....and enjoying some wine in the process. Good times!!!!!

Early evening, the 1st Lady and I drove into Mercedes.....about 3 miles away....and ate at Mingo's Restaurant. This is one of our favorite little places to enjoy a meal, no matter which one, they are all good!!!! This little place is located just a block or so west of the main street, on Bus. 83......it is a "mom and pop" place, but they know how to serve a good and inexpensive meal!!! Of course......there main forte is Mexican food. Sooo, I had the Veracruzanos.....with the ground beef, not the fajitas. OMG......do not order the large plate......it is a serving platter size.....and so even with the small order.....it was more than I could eat!!!!!!! Just soooooooo much very good food!!!! Again, as I have said before..........TRY IT when in the RGV!!!!!!!!!!!

Returning to the Resort, we settled in for the evening. A bit of TV, a bit of reading for me and a bit of crossword puzzle working for the 1st Lady........exciting as hell, eh?????

Tomorrow......we are going square dancing in the morning....and then when we return back here, I plan to do the RV windows.....and then get on with the waxing.....ugh.

And so, another day in this wonderful warm winter hideout. And, as always........

LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!
