WOW!!!!!

Yesterday, Friday, was such a hectic day....for some reason. We were up and going, having all three finished the morning rituals by 9am or so....however, we didn't leave the cg until 10:45 or so...... We were waiting to get the "word" as to when a large ship would be going through one the locks on the Welland Canal. Things are tight as to exactly when the ships go through....security reasons....as well as the cargo and other info. But.....one was supposed to go through about 12:30, so most of the Cedar Creekers loaded up and off we went down the road in another long caravan of trucks with black hitches wobbling around in the bed of each truck.

We got there before too long and soon we were watching a video about the canal and it's history......an interesting presentation if they had just not used the same background music over and over and over and over.

Then we wandered around the building, shops, snack bar,.....waiting. And soon, coming from the north we could see this large.....and it got larger!.....ship coming down the canal. Of course, the 1st Lady and I have seen ships going through canals.....and for that matter, we have gone through them on a boat on Danube in Austria....and last fall going up the Nile River in Egypt. But, for Rachel it was all new and she enjoyed watching the huge ship come into the narrow lock and soon grow soooooo tall above all of us as the water in the lock increased and lifted this huge ship high above us!

From there, we dashed to Niagara-on-the-Lake to tour a winery......Jackson-Triggs. While it was an interesting tour, it was nothing new again for us. The wine tasting was just ok.....I didn't like the "ice wine" which they served.........wine gathered from frozen grapes which are then pressed and the intense flavors of the juice then becomes even more intense. I BELIEVE that is the process........but, way, way too sweet for my preference!!

From there we literally dashed back to the cg, changed clothes quickly and left in the caravan for our 5pm dinner reservation at the top of the Skylon.....about 500 or so....a tower which dominates the skyline of Niagara Falls. We had already selected our choices for the dinner.....and we had our tables reserved. The restaurant is on top and goes around slowly so that while dining the Falls pass by below, as well as the rest of the town. We went around once....and then some...during our meal.

I ordered Salmon....and it was ok.....a bit too dry for my liking....needed more sauce or something to moisten it a bit. The broccoli was good and so were the potatoes. The salad was just a salad.....nothing special. I ordered a glass of Cabernet........a waste of $8 plus. Would I eat there again......no! The price was a special price for our group which included the elevator ride to the top with access to leave and return for the evening fireworks....and it included the parking. The price was good for all of that, but the food was just average.....nothing to write home about.

From there, with Chuck and Sue, we descended and walked down to the Falls and river area which was full of energy with lots and lots and lots of people strolling along. As it got closer to 9pm, we went back up the Skylon to be there for the fireworks which were to begin at 10pm.

We were ABOVE the fireworks.....an intersting viewpoint but not as spectacular as from below. There were lots of people up there and I am certain that most of them who were not up against the "fence" could not see them as their viewpoint would have not allowed to them look down, but only straight out. Afterwards.....it became a huge mess trying to get down on the one and only elevator that ran from the observation deck. Another ran just from the restaurant, one floor below us....so after waiting for 25 minutes or so, we went to the restaurant level and got right on an elevator!!!!!

And so.....we returned to TheHowserHouse tired from the rushing around that seemed to occur yesterday to get to each place on time. But.....it was still a very good day with lots of things to see, especially for Rachel!!! And, as I said last night......

LIFE IS INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!
