After a late night last night, I awakened at 7:45am.....most unusual for me to sleep that long!!! Moving quietly...as possible....and slowly, I came downstairs, started the coffee brewing, and then sat on the couch to read the newspapers. The 1st Lady was up about 8:40am.....and after we both finished our morning rituals, we had breakfast, coffee and tea.
The sun was bright, the sky was a brilliant blue, and the winds were getting stronger and stronger with each passing hour, coming up out of the southeast from the Gulf of Mexico and across part of Mexico bringing in lots of humidity and lots of heavy clouds. I really thought that we would have a shower or two this morning/afternoon....however, I was WRONG!!!! The sky clouded over...but, not for very long. GREAT!!!!!
I made a dash,......well, that is NOT the word for going to Walmart down here in the RGV!!!!! NObody dashes to Walmart as there are always.....ALWAYS....soooooo many people there and there must be at least six Walmarts in the Valley, if not more than that. Nevertheless, it took me over an hour to get the 8 items on the list after fighting for a parking space waaaayyyy out in the very front of the parking area. The place was crammed with shoppers with little children.....and so, it took me time to move that lopsided shopping cart up and down the aisles. However, I did find 99% of what I was looking for.....and then came the standing in line at the check-out lanes.......but, it didn't seem to take as long as usual...WHEW!!!!
I stated above that the "place was crammed with shoppers with little children".....and that is always the case here in the RGV!!!! And, you know something.....??......I like it, I like it!!!! The Latino/a culture here...as well as across the Latin countries to the south of the border.....they all are sooooo centered on their families! Yep.....this is really just great....and their children are part of their everyday experiences....even shopping in Walmart. I just think it is amazing that they do this....that it is a part of their culture. And when I say that, I do mean that they are soooooo much more family-oriented than we here in the USA seem to be. I have paused often to think about this, to watch and to enjoy watching the families with their adorable little children....and especially on Sunday's, as they are always dressed up in their best clothes.......such a wonderful way to raise a family!!!!!!!!!!!
And soooo, back to the Resort I came....after spending another $70 plus dollars on just a few little sacks of merchandise.....hmmmmm.......don't know how soooo many people manage to fee their families!!!
The 1st Lady was deep into fixing some various things for the Super Bowl Party that was to be held at the Porter's Phaeton(the brand name of their motorhome).....and we also had a square dance to attend here in our park. Since Doug and I were strong involved in convincing the Activities Director, last spring, to bring square dancing BACK to our park, we do feel obligated to support the dances held here. And, each week more people do show up here......GREAT!!!!!
After two hours of so much fun at the dance......we all gathered back at Doug/Diane's for some drinks and appetizers outside in the windy weather. There were 12 of us there to begin with....and after an hour of drinks, Diane suggested that we go play some Shuffleboard for a while....so, we loaded up and off we went to the Rec Center where there are tons of shuffleboard courts, all freshly painted and pristine......just waiting for the Senior RGV Olympics to begin this month. We broke up into two man teams and spent the next hour plus on the courts. The 1st Lady and Dave(another of our Canadian friends) won the "tournament". And soooo, back to the Porter motorhome we went.......
We ran over to TheHowserHouse to get our cake, greenbeans which had been cooking for several hours in the crockpot, along with bits of freshly fried bacon, cream of mushroom soup, and some onions. GREAT beans, I might add!!!! We got our chairs, tables, bbq grill, and our meat and joined the rest of the gathering crowd......the stories and laughter never ever coming to an end......!!!!
Soon, everyone had their own meat choices grilled, and we went inside as the winds have become really, really strong......way to strong to eat outside without having the tables blown over. A marvelous throw-together dinner......and we really stuffed ourselves. Coffee and dessert followed, as well as watching intensely the second half of the Super Bowl on the tellie.
And, as we all know....the Saints prevailed.......YEAH!!!!!!!!
Laughter reigns when we are all together......and, I often think that we seniors know how to party to the max......more so than the youth of today!!!! We have such an amazing time together....we meld together soooo well....we have almost become like family!
And sooo, after the game, after a few more hilarious stories, we all left for our respective RV's/park models across the RGV.....looking forward to when we all be together again!!!!!!
Soooo, another fabulous day...........and, as always........
LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!!
