Day 19, Jan 19, 2010: Warm/Windy/Wonderful.....but sooooo busy!!!

You know.....I often wonder why we are sooooo damn busy when we come down here for the winter!! It is this way each year......and we have to back to Misery in order to get rested. Today was such a good example.........

We both needed to shower this morning, but we had to leave for the west end of the RGV by 9:10am this morning. Soooo, I got up at 7 to wake up the 1st Lady.....and when I did, she said for me to go ahead and take care of my morning rituals....FIRST. OK...that was not the plan last night, so my entire morning's plan was altered.....I thought she would go first and I would be able to enjoy my coffee for about an hour...and then I could shower......ahhhhh, the little details that when changed can set off a chain of events that can later more plans.....

Sooo, when I made my coffee after doing my morning rituals.....not having any Starbucks Fr Roast, I used a new bag of beans that we had purchased from Harry and David's a month ago. Well......the damn coffee was absolutely the worst....HORRIBLE!!!!!! I could barely drink any of it. And sooooo.......we picked up Doug and Diane and off we went down the highway towards Mission.

OK.....needing coffee in the worst way....I was out of luck. As soon as we reached the hall.....where there were sooooooooooo many other sq. dancers, we formed our first square and the next two hours became an endurance contest. Yep......this was the morning for non-stop square dancing. IF you needed a break, then you had to drop out and hopefuly, work your way back into a square if you wanted to begin to dance again.

Sooooo, the 1st Lady and I didn't drop out for the first hour. 2 minutes between dances.....and then we would be dancing again!!! We did get a 7 minute break halfway through.....everyone ran to the restrooms, including this sagging hulk of Me!!!! And then.....another hour of non-stop dancing........EXHAUSTING!!!!! Not only the physical part, but also the mental part of this......WHEW!!!!! As some of you may NOT know.....each dance that is called is entirely different.....the caller can mix the many 'moves' that are put together to make up a dance.....therefore, you never, never know which call will be called in the next 20 seconds....you cannot talk, you cannot think,.....it must be just a reaction to the call that is made, your body responding correctly....hopefully!!! Sooooo, the mind must be alert, concentrating on the call and making the correct moves for each call. ME???? I had not had any coffee.....and caffeine is a big, big part of my bloodstream!!!!

Soooo, I struggled all morning with trying to stay alert so I wouldn't make mistakes and screw up the square. WHAT a morning....WHAT a two hour dance!!!!!! By the time we concluded by noon, I was wiped out!!! Soooo, we pulled ourselves up into the truck, panting and perspiring and pooped out!!!!!!!

Returning to the Resort, the 1st Lady and I had some lunch, lots of water, and I made a pot of fresh Starbucks FR Roast coffee......drinking down a couple of hot, steamy cups of this hopefully magic dark elixir. And before long I began to feel somewhat better.....not refreshed, but regaining my normal functions, mentally!!!

Soooo, with the winds coming out of the southeast at 23-32 miles per hour, the temps in the lower 80's, and black soot landing everywhere, I began to wash the truck for the first time since late last fall. Black soot???, you say?? Yep....the annual burning of the sugar cane fields has begun....and this black, stringy soot from the burned plants came down all around us with those winds roaring so much!!! Sooo, what the hell was I doing??? WASHING the truck, sponging off the black soot from the roof and hood as I washed it.......I sometimes thought I would be the loser in this washing job!

However,....I soon managed to get things done.....did the tires....washed the windows inside and out, and cleaned the mats and the floorboard, as well as the dash. Almost two hours.....and then I WAS really EXHAUSTED!!!!!!! Soooo, I managed to climb up the three steps to the inside of TheHowserHouse, drank a couple of glasses of water....and poured another cup of coffee. WOW......what a job....what a day....what a bedraggled sagging hulk of Me!!!!!!!!

This evening....after a light supper....I have been doing some reading online, and just generally kicking back and not doing a damn thing. I did organize some pictures that I have taken of people over the past couple of years for the Photography Club meeting in the morning.......to be critiqued at the meeting......UGH!!!!

And sooooo, another day has been completed.....and as always.....

LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!!
