AHHHHH……..beautiful, wet, dripping rain began to bounce off TheHowserHouse rubber roof during the night…….what more could we ask for but more wonderful rain!!!! During my in-house French Roast coffee this morning it then began to snow…….the middle of June, too. It didn’t stick but it did come down in large, wet flakes for a few minutes. Soooo, the question became: What do we do today???
So, by mid-morning we got the cameras and took off for Jackson Hole to window shop and hopefully see a movie. It is about 50 minutes to drive down there on an excellent road. The place was hopping with bundled up tourists dodging the cold raindrops which fell consistently until mid-afternoon. Some unprepared tourists were in shorts with large goosebumpy legs……not toooo sexy. Others didn’t have jackest or any wraps on, but guess who was in the shops looking for sweatshirts???? In fact, I even looked around for another one for the Old man but couldn’t find one that I absolutely HAD to have, so didn’t spend any retirement or SS money. HA!
We window shopped and then….YEAH!!!! We headed back to the wonderful little bakery/café where we ate last weekend…….couldn’t wait to get a cup of their strong Starbucks coffee. And so, we had fresh baked large croissants with turkey and swiss cheese……sooooo buttery and good. Then for dessert…….I ordered a Very Berry Pie slice with Hagan Daz ice cream………ohhhh, but did those calories taste sooooo good!!! The pie is their specialty, which has even brought the attention of the magazine “Bon Appetite” (sp??)to this little bakery, and rightfully so. If you are ever EVER in Jackson Hole, plan to eat at THE BUNNERY…..where “you can get the best buns in town”. The pie was filled with blue berries, raspberries, and strawberries on a wonderful, delicious crust……..sinful!!
More window shopping in the rain, however in the main center of town, the boardwalks are covered for the shoppers. Bought a couple of small items for gifts and then off to the local Albertson’s Market for some more calories to take back to TheHowseHouse. Hurrying, we drove to the local movie theater and got seats for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” which just opened. It is ok…….lots of shoot-um-up and chase scenes, but a great way to pass a rainy afternoon.
On the way back……WILDLIFE!!!!! First bison were alongside the highway in all their hugeness(a word??), and then a herd of elk…….over 30 of them were not too far off the road. Next…….their was a bull moose laying down in the bushes with his head and rack showing….but too far for a picture. A few feet later down the road was the female moose and I did get a pic of her. Will try to post it with this tonight……IF we have any service.
We did get a few people called from Jackson Hole……good to talk with all of you!!! Mike/Merrie……start your travel plans now……and when I get back will give you some ideas about where to go/stay out here.
Now at home with clouds and a few little raindrops falling. Hoping for better weather tomorrow. We have a hike to take…..cross Jenny Lake by boat, and then hike up the Teton foothills to see a hidden waterfall….and then return by foot path or come back by boat.
So…….until later…..

Yep…. You guessed it!!! Rain again this morning and during the night, however, by mid-morning the blue sky was peaking thru the clouds and shortly thereafter, the SUN came through.
We took a walk to the Visitor Center where there is a great Indian arts/crafts/clothing exhibit.
Spent some time there, stopped at the Park Store, and each place we went we visited with people who are working here for the summer. We also walked to the campground where the employees with an RV stay while they are working here. They have full hookups which helps greatly. Not one person that we have visited with who is currently working here has anything negative to say about the experience. One man is in his 26th summer of working here!!!
It became really warm today……at least 65 degrees…..probably more in the sunshine. We took a bicycle ride after lunch for a few miles……going to the picnic grounds of the Colter Bay area where we are camped. Another perfect place along the Jackson Lake with more incredible views……..I keep asking myself: Is this Switzerland……Austria??……NOPE, it is WYOMING!!!
Got out the old BBQ grill…..finally since the weather is sooo nice……and grilled up some meat for dinner. BUT……..with all the beauty of nature, there is a downside here: the mosquitoes are now hatching and attempting to have their first feast……on us. Soooo, we ate inside TheHowserHouse…….but that was ok.
Have the gennie on juicing up the batteries. The gennie is using more LP than I had thought it would. But, it has to keep the batteries going for the furnace, hot water heater, etc., etc.
Will throw in a couple of pics if I can get this online tonight. Last night I could get NOTHING in the way of good service to send out this post. Will try tonight……soon. We seem to keep taking pics of the Tetons……and hope they don’t all look the same to you.
Soooo, will close this and attempt to post it.
