WOW.....what a miserably, cold and blustery day here in the warm(???) Rio Grande Valley!!! This was almost a wasted day......it was almost tooooo cold to do anything outside of TheHowserHouse.......in fact, we didn't do much of anything during the daytime.
The 1st Lady was up and going......she was line dancing by 9AM.......and I got to watch her on the closed circuit tellie station. All of this wonderful tv entertainment while I was sipping my Fr. Roast coffee.......coffee made from freshly ground Starbucks beans. When the 1st Lady arrived back.........it wasn't long before she headed to Walmart Supercenter. She was anxious to move about the area/valley on her own......and the entrance/exit "ramps" of the expressway are most interesting! Not the normal type, to say the least.
Early afternoon and she was back. We had a bit of lunch and then we just relaxed around TheHowserHouse for awhile. I did some reading.......while listening to the XM Radio stations.
Late afternoon, I popped a brownie mix into the convection oven....and it did the job in a shorter time than the box said it would. They turned out GREAT!!!
At 5pm, we joined our friends from Oklahoma and went over to the next town....Weslaco....and after driving down the "main street" we arrived a "Teri's Bistro". The main street is really updated and seems to be very vibrant and active!!! Think almost all of the stores had businesses in them........and that is something to be proud of in these days!!!
Arriving at Teri's Bistro, I was sooooo impressed by the exterior of the new building, the style, AND the "El Patio" in the back....tooo bad it was sooooo terribly cold tonight. We were seated in a really neat little room.......the place is full of small rooms, each thoughtfully decorated in a minimalist style with plenty of room for seating the guests at the linen covered tables.
Our server arrived to take our drink orders and it was quite obvious that he had a great personality! THAT alone can make or break the evening......and it was all a postive for us!
We ordered from the "Senior Menu"......oh yeah....the places down here really, really do cater to the Winter Texans with such great price specials in the restaurants and cafes.
Three of us ordered wine......and of course, it WAS time for my dosage of dark red medicine. The portions of wine were very good.......not just a couple of good swallows as oftentimes happens in other restaurants. We then were brought some warm bread.....REALLY good!!! In fact we had our server, Javi, bring us several baskets of the bread during the meal.
Our friends and I all had Teri's Parmagiana with pasta and veggies. The 1st Lady had Crepes with chicken and cream sauce. We all took the soup option, rather than the salad. I had the tomato-basil soup.....and it was really quite good. Lots of herbs, pasta, and croutons in it. I thought it could have been a bit warmer.......it was just a bit above room temperature.....and I would liked to have seen it more on the hot side(temperature, not spiced).
My dinner was really very good!!!!! The 1st Lady was disappointed in her selection.....she just didn't care for it. I would certainly recommend the dinner that I selected to any and all!!!! In fact.....I would really like to return during the next two weeks that we are still going to be here. The prices were GREAT!!!! My meal was $6.95, plus my nice portion of Cabernet Sauvignon....Concho y Toro brand.
As I mentioned, Javi helped to make this dinner a success for us!!! In talking with him, he is a college student at one of the local colleges. His plans are to major in Psychology.....a tough career to find a great position in, but with his personality and confidence, I believe he will be successful. He was right at the table whenever something was needed, he seemed to know the menu well, and even agreed with our choices. His honesty when a special drink was ordered is to be complimented.....he explained the bartender was not there, but that he could make it himself. And.....I'm quite certain he could have, but our friend decided not to take the chance! Haha.
Again.....when in the Weslaco area of the RGV, by all means find your way going south down the main street and Teri's Bistro is on the right side of the street!!! You won't be disappointed.....and hopefully, Javi will be your server!
We returned to Llano Grande RV Park Resort and Don and Mary Beth joined us at our home on wheels for some Brownies and tea......and some great conversation as we learned more about each other's lives.
The warmth of the dinner and the evening together with some great new friends......well, it turned this gray and cold and windy day into a very pleasant ending!!! And......with that, what more can I say but.....
Life is GREAT....and I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
