OK.....sure some of you...perhaps all of you...have wondered about not having anything new to read on here. Well.....TheHowserHouse does still exist......!
I have been doing many things around the sticknbrick lately. Worked in the perimeter of the yard cutting back some plants that were trying to escape from their specific assignments in the overall plan of the yard.....not wanting to be team players. Then yesterday, I mowed the lawn mucho shorter than normal, but since we are going to be gone for around two weeks, I wanted to cut it back so that I didn't have to ask someone to mow it for me.
However.....the past 3 nights we have had some big-time frosts.....and I do believe that the growing season has ended....peacefully. Therefore......the lawn is really short.....the few little leaves that have fallen into the yard, or blown over here from someone's else yard....have been mower mulched.....and the yard is ready for some rest. My herb garden....I didn't cover it the first frost night.....and it is now beginning to wilt and die away. The sage is still good, the rosemary is good as the large basil plant had covered it, keeping the frost off of it....the lavender is still blooming, the parsley has overgrown it's place and is now in the need of INSTANT death by the garden owner.....how dare it try to do more than it was asked to do??!!!!!! The chives are gone, and the mint just keeps getting thicker, but it, too, will soon be dead.
Today.......I began to put things together that I am going to try to cram into the car, along with the 1st Lady's things...and Rachel's things. This morning I took the car into the shop and had the oil changed and everything else checked over. Then during the afternoon, I cleaned out the car, vacuumed it, and then washed and dried it, followed by washing all of the windows. With the wax job I gave it a couple of weeks ago, it should slip through the air with less friction and better gas mileage.....if that is possible. We are getting right around 30 mpg on these long road trips.....sure as hell can't complain!
Tomorrow's plan.....leave here mid-morning for Cape G.......pick up Rachel a few minutes after 12 noon when she will leave school.....and then hit the road with south Atlanta, GA, as the destination for locating a hotel and getting some rest. By Friday late afternoon, we SHOULD arrive at the house we have rented SW of Disney World and we will have it until Sat. the 16th.
Soooo, a long day/evening tomorrow......not my idea of a easy, retired-like drive,.....but, Atlanta is not that far from here in miles. Biggest obstacle might be arriving at Nashville about rush hour tomorrow afternoon. THAT could be a problem that might slow us down.....!!
Another problem has risen it's ugly head....and that is that the 1st Lady's mother is going down hill quickly. She is having difficulty breathing.....cannot walk to the mail box across the street without stopping and waiting to catch some breath....and it is that way even inside the house. She was at a heart doctor today, however......the tests which they would like to run on her....particularly the stress tests...are just not possible for her to take in the shape she is right now. Sooooo......each phone call we receive will be a call we will be concerned about.........she has sooooo many problems going on and they each make it next to impossible to fix because of the other problems she has.....and, it all falls back on her age, her health history for decades, and the inter-connection of these problems. Not the way we would like to leave things as we head for Florida tomorrow........................
And so, even with all of the above paragraph.........
LIFE IS STILL REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
