Yesterday.......Sunday, we were packed and loaded and on the road at 9AM.....heading north for a few short miles and then turning right to go up and into the Canadian Rockies, driving through Kootenay N.P. in British Columbia....and then across the Province border into Alberta where we turned north to drive up to the very, world-wide known Lake Louise, inside of Banff National Park.
While in Kootenay, we came across a momma black bear and her THREE small cubs, two black ones and one brown......most unusual!!!! They were having a great time along the side of the highway in the grass. The mother bear was carefully watching all three of them as the cavorted around.....and then we had to move on as everyone was blocking the traffic heading east. But.....on this trip we have now seen five bears along the roadside........a brand new personal best for this sagging hulk of Me!!!!!! What an experience!!!!!! We also during the day a Bighorn Sheep....walking right down the right lane of the highway.....going the WRONG way.....haha!!!! Soooo proudly he walked........WOW!!!!!
The mts. were all snow covered on the tops.......and as we turned north towards Lake Louise, the mts became even more covered on their tops with brilliant white snow. Arriving at Lake Louise, we quite obviously were not the only ones there....as the parking lots were filled with cars and RV's. We parked and then made our way by pathways to the side of the Lake, in front of the HUGE Fairmont Chateau Hotel......an old hotel that has been refurbished over many years......it being over a hundred years old!
We decided to walk along the north side on the trail to the other side where the glaciers are located....and thoroughly enjoyed this stroll, even though there were tons of others doing the same thing. The color of this Lake is just fantastic......such a brilliant blue.....a color made by the melting of the glacial ice which occurs each year. Honestly.....this is one of the most spectacular vistas I have ever seen in my years of traversing through 45 countries as I have traveled the world.......just amazing.....WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After our little walk, we returned to the hotel and decided to have lunch outside on the patio fo the pub in the hotel....and what a delightful choice this was!!!!! GREAT food and incredible scenery........all making for such a wonderful hour plus as we sat in the bright sunshine enjoying the beauty of Lake Louise and the glaciers and mountains along the side and on the far side of the Lake!!!!!!! HURRY, HURRY, HURRY......to this wonderful place before it changes as the warming of the globe takes it's toll on the glaciers which will definitely change the beauty of this wonderful vista!!!!!!!
After lunch, we took some more pictures......and then headed for the van.....as we had been there for three hours!!!!! Heading north up the highway within the Banff NP which then eventually becomes Jasper National Park......but, before we reached that entrance, we turned east and after one coffee stop at the famous Tim Horton's.......the well-known coffee and pastry shop that is found EVERYWHERE within Canada. Getting our coffee and pastries, we continued on east and eventully arrived at Edmonton........the end of a fabulous week!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( minus my tooth problems).
We unloaded the van....and then after a light supper, we ended the day with a hot game of "Hand and Foot".....a more difficult game of Canasta. WHAT a great time this has been!!!!!!!!!!!!
MONDAY:........I was up at 6:30AM to take my anti infection meds....and just remained up, reading the newspapers. After a mid-morning breakfast.......we all went along together as Doug picked up his new glasses....and then Diane had a Dr.'s appt. Doug and I went grocery shopping and then we all returned home about the middle of the afternoon.
A great Happy Hour then began.....and during that time we made a Skype call to our friends, Sally and Jim, who are spending the next month or more in the mts. of Colorado. It was just soooooo incredible to talk with them again, as well as see them at the same time!!!
Before much longer, it was time to go out to dinner.....having made reservations at a place called "The Keg".....and it was a wonderful place to have a great dinner!!!!!!!! Doug and I both had Prime Rib.......just excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prior to the entree being brought, we had ordered some bake/broiled Escargot.......and, OMG.....it was fabulous!!!!!!!! Those little snails were sooooo rich and tasty, laying with the tiny mushrooms on top of them, covered in this rich and savory sauce.......sooooooo damn good!!!!! I ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to accompany our dinners......and it was also a great choice!!!! Dinner with everything was only $180, plus tip......a really great bargain for the quantity and quality of the meal.....WOW!!!!!!!!! It was our dinner for Doug and Diane who have gone to such great lengths to show us such a wonderful, incredible time for the past two weeks!!!!!!!!!!! We are sooooo indebted to them, as I said the other evening......WOW!!!!! Such wonderful hosts!!!
And sooooo, after an hour of being shown the downtown city center of Edmonton......a super tour.....we returned to their condo and the ladies fell into bed, exhausted!!!! And.....it is about time for this sagging hulk of Me to do the same, soooooo as I alway say........
LIFE IS SOOOOOOOO INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!
