WOW……did the winds ever blow around these parts last night!!!! I was awakened several times by a bit of shaking of TheHowserHouse….and then, slipped right back to sleep. I was up around 7am today….and let the 1st Lady sleep until almost nine. It was very, very gloomy here….fog so thick I couldn’t see the Bay…..and from time to time, large drops of rain would slam against the roof of THH…..and then it would just as suddenly…stop.
We had planned to go into St. John to see the Reversing Falls…..but the weather was soooo miserable and I am still the victim of this head and chest cold that will not release it’s hold on me……and so, we both came to a quick and mutual agreement that we would just relax inside, read, turn on the fireplace, and enjoy the foggy views from all of the windows. And that is exactly what we did……….!
Now….where did the day go to????? I’m not certain…….it was a Lost Day on the Bay of Fundy. The Caves, the water, the dark green trees above the Caves would come into view every couple of hours as the fog would blow out for a few minutes….and then suddenly the gray darkness would enshroud us like a heavy wet blanket….and we would then heat up the teapot and have a spot of tea!
We decided to try to stay here for another day….and take the Fundy Trail…..when the sun comes out tomorrow (notice the optimism??). Soooo, went up to the office to try to keep this site for another day/night. DAMN!!!! Only a couple of hours earlier someone reserved this very site……hmmmm, I wonder why??? Could it be for the incredible view of the Bay????? Surely not…….haha!! So, after some discussion, we decided to accept another site…..not nearly as nice…..but for only tomorrow night. Soooo, in the morning we must get up and put things away so we can move THH about 100 feet to another site.
The weather forecast is for great weather tomorrow…..so, I am hoping I feel like either hiking or biking the Fundy Trail areas…..and see some more gorgeous sites. As I write…..the fog is GONE…..the clouds are GONE…..and the sun is HERE!!!!! OMG….I may go blind from the intense brightness….and it is currently 8:16pm….wonder where the hell I put my sunglasses????
We had made plans to go to this little Seafood Shack….where supposedly the “best clam chowder” of anywhere is served. And….we did just that. And…..yep, it was really, really very good!!! Thick, full of clams, scallops, fish, and lobster…..and what a flavor…..WOW!!!! We also shared a platter of fish and chips….again, haddock, but it was the best haddock that I have ever eaten…..prepared just right and oh-sooooo-good.
And now, we are enjoying the evening sunset, the blue waters of the Bay of Fundy, and the air that is not nearly as damp and chilly as today and last night. From here, on Saturday, we will drive about 140 miles or so……to Hopewell Rocks. And…I will have an explanation of these formations after we have arrived…..again on the Bay of Fundy.
Then…..our plans…(as of right now)….are to go to Prince Edward Island for a few days. HOPEFULLY, we will intersect with Pete and Jane, Buzz and Moe…..and spend a day or so with them on the Island. They are in Nova Scotia now, will take the ferry to Prince Edward Island on Tuesday and then we hope to wind up in the same campground, space permitting. From there, we plan….as of now(must always qualify those statements)……to take the ferry to Nova Scotia (cheaper than driving) and spend some time there before we begin to work our way back south to Maine and New England.
Hey…..this is one hell of a trip!!!!! I cannot urge you enough to make the journey up here and see this part of North America!!!!! Sooo clean…..so pristine……soooo friendly……so picturesque!!!! As you have heard me say so often…….Life is tooooo short to stay in one place. None of us know what will happen tomorrow, do we? Yes, we have paid a lot for diesel fuel……yes, the campgrounds are a just a wee bit more expensive than in the states, but not all that much higher, but Life needs, and should be, lived to the fullest……so just do it! And….you will definitely then know that……
LIFE IS INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!……And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!
