Day 33: A VERY warm welcome to New Mexico!!!!!

Forgetting the time change that we had to make today, I didn't set the alarm.....and when I awoke, by the light in the upstairs windows and skylight, I realized that I had overslept since the sun didn't come up quite as early on the western fringe of the Central Time Zone. Soooo, I jumped out of my nightly horizontal position and started my day just a bit late! By the time we had breakfast, Fr. Roast coffee, and the 1st Lady's tea.......unhooked the umbilical cords and attached TheHowserHouse to the truck......it was 9:30 by the time we drove out of the campground in Ft. Stockton, TX.

Hmmmmm........there really wasn't much to see as we drove the 240 miles to El Paso, TX where we crossed the border into New Mexico. We made a quick lunch stop at a parking area off of I-10......and then kept driving until we reached El Paso. From time to time we did catch a small/tiny glimpse of the Rio Grande.....and could REALLY see over into Mexico at the tall mountains that rise up just on the south side of the Rio Grande. The mts. here in Texas and in Mexico are all just rock.....no deep green pine trees like in Wyoming, etc., etc........so they have that sand brown look up close, but from a distance they turn a beautiful bluish purple.

We stopped for some fuel in the eastern side of El Paso......and then began the LONG drive through this Texas city. I had no idea it was this large.........we drove and drove and finally reached the New Mexico border. There we stopped at the "Welcome Center"......but the "welcome" was not really there. Some lady working there was tooooo busy to say more than "Good Afternoon".....and from then on she never looked up to ask what we were interested in, where we were going, if she could help us. Hmmmmm........not the friendliest person I've met, by a long shot.

Only 21 miles later we were in Las Cruces.....and pulled off on Exit 140 to a decent campground.....once again on desert like soil. It seems pretty full........perhaps from the looks of the rv's that they are wintering here....and not just passing through like we are doing.

As soon as we got to a point in our setup that I could stop, I called Pete and Jane, fellow Cedar Creek RV Owners Club members and let them know we had arrived. In only a couple of minutes Pete was knocking on the door......and we introduced ourselves to him. He came in and we chatted for a few minutes.....and then he asked to come on over to their home for a few drinks and appetizers.

We finished our chores and then drove over to his house......almost spitting distance from where we are camped for the night. It is SUCH a LOVELY home!!!! Built in the Southwestern style......it is soooo attractive, as well as soooo lovely inside!!!! We met Jane....and Jack, their Golden Retriever......and from that time on, the talking and laughing and comparing notes with each other never ceased!! We knocked off two bottles of wine and a lot of appetizers........and enjoyed the late afternoon/early evening socializing......soooooo much!!!! WHAT a wonderful way to be welcomed into New Mexico!!!!!!!!!

THIS is what our Cedar Creek RV Owners Club is all about!!!! Making new friends, socializing and visiting other members, and being of assistance when assistance is needed in our travels around North America. It was a wonderful time.......THANK YOU PETE AND JANE(and Jack)!!!!!!!

Back at TheHowserHouse.....we have just kicked back and relaxed, making plans for the final leg of our trip to Casa Grande, AZ for tomorrow. And soooooo, as always in this blog.......

LIFE IS GREAT....and I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!
