Day 28, Sept. 9, 2009: An afternoon in the mts.....
WOW.....it DID get cold last night, but not to worry about TheHowserHouse as it was nice and toasty inside all night long. Didn't get as low as predicted....and the water hose did not freeze. This morning.....another great blue sky day!!!!!
We decided to go out for breakfast this morning......and went into Thayne to the Star Valley Cheese Factory cafe.....yep, there IS a cheese factory here in town!!!!! And.....there cafe serves a really great breakfast at a very low price. Even though I do believe that they gave us the wrong breakfast....more than we should have had on the plates.....it was really great. Fried eggs (very fresh eggs), three huge pieces of thick bacon, LARGE Texas sized pieces of toast of sour dough bread, and some potatoes and peppers. GREAT!!!!!!! All for a total of $9.63 with coffee!!!!
Then, before long we were off to the Grey's River Road which follows along beside the Grey's River, obviously!!! The mission???? To find some good size rocks for our new lot-to-be to outline various areas/perimeters. And......we did find some that we brought back this afternoon. Along the way, we stopped and enjoyed the beauty of this river......crystal clear and sparkling brightly in the warm sunshine. We had a light lunch alongside the river.......loaded some more rocks(very small boulders) that we could carry and lift into the truck....and then after about three hours or so, we returned to the RV resort.
This evening, we brought dessert over to Mac/Gail's place and were joined by Revy and John for some "earthquake cake" that the 1st Lady made. DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
And sooooo, this day went quickly.....as do all of them here in the Star Valley. Tomorrow we are going to Idaho Falls, Idaho for some shopping.....about 100 miles from here.....and the closest large town there is around here.
A great day outside.......and, as always.....
LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!

Day 27, Sept 8, 2009: Temps are dropping and the sky is bluer.....
OH YEAH.......it was 33 degrees when I pulled my sagging hulk out of the horizontal position and managed to stumble down the stairs to turn on the coffee maker. And.....I turned on the furnace.....and before very long the wonderful aroma of freshly ground coffee dripping into coffee pot....and the inside of the rv was soon toasty warm.
The 1st Lady went line dancing this morning for a couple of hours.......and during that time, I ambled down to Mac/Gail's and we set and visited for awhile. Returning to the RV.....I went up to our own site/lot to look around, pace off some rv placement ideas.....and then returned to the RV.
I had some more paperwork to sign, as well as the 1st Lady, for the lot purchase. I asked about moving the closing date forward, but.......it isn't possible. Sooooo, things are changing as I write this about the next 10 days....and our activities for those days.
I then grabbed the "Roundup" and went back to the lot......and for the next two hours I sprayed the weeds and weeds and weeds and hopefully, I have killed these damn western weeds. I won't know for a few days. I did gather up the weeds that we had pulled out yesterday, bagged them, and took them back to the RV to dispose of.
We had many people drive by, stop, and talk about our new purchase........all expressing their congrats....and were glad to see someone purchase this large lot.
This evening.......we are back down at Mac/Gail's to use their wifi. We are doing some thinking about going up the 80 miles or less to Teton National Park for a few days. RV sites are on a first come, first served there, so it is just a gamble as to whether we can drive up and get one that we can squeeze into. They do not have hookups there, so we will have to rely on batteries and our generator, which can only be run during the certain hours of the day. But....think we can spend a few days there.....with luck.
And soooo, my day was very busy. Two hours plus on the weed destruction project.....and a couple more hours on discussing, mapping, marking where we might want to place TheHowserHouse on the lot. Sooooo much to think about......soo much to do here. Can't move any dirt around until we close on the lot.....and that means: no moving of dirt, gravel, until when we get back out here next summer!!!!!! Not to my liking, but our already confirmed schedules for this fall cannot....repeat: CANNOT be changed.
Two major trips by plane in the next two months....and I will not cancel them or change dates as the costs are much more than I want to spend.....to not make the trips: Hartford, CT...and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
And soooooo, tomorrow is another day.....and tomorrow morning will be a COLD morning as it is predicted that temps will fall into the mid-20's tonight!!!! BRRRRRR.......is it time to leave for the Rio Grande Valley in Texas already????? Hmmmm....I wonder......
But.....cold temps or not, as always......
LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!.......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!

Day 26, Sept 7, 2009: Working....yep....working at the new site.
Morning......very cloudy over the entire valley and the mountains. However, by mid-morning the sun was out and by afternoon the clouds had almost disappeared. Cooler weather is moving down upon us....with the low tonight around 34 degrees and tomorrow night about the same.
The 1st Lady and I spent several hours pulling weeds from the site we have purchased....and will on the agreement on Sept. 25. Sooo, we can't do much of anything to the lot other than get the weeds out until that day arrives, but we really got a bunch of weeds out this morning......and there are more, many more to tackle!!!
We are trying to decide about our proposed plans of going down into Utah to see some of the National Parks there, but with this new purchase.....we are just not certain. Plus it is still really hot down there, sooooooo.......we will decide in a day or two.
This afternoon..........Gail was over for a while to visit. Later we ran into town to the local hardware store to pick up a few items. And then back for supper.......a light supper with some grilled hot dogs and left overs from last night's dinner.
WOW.....WOW.....WOW.......wasn't this an interesting day to write about???????????? Quite frankly, I had to work hard thinking about what I could write about.....haha!! Perhaps tomorrow will be more interesting????????? Don't give up on some better posts....ok?????? I, too, am hoping some better things will occur tomorrow.......????!!!!!!
And even with not much to say...........as always,
LIFE IS JUST REALLY REALLY GREAT!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!

Day 25, Sept 6, 2009: Where DO these days go?????
Awakened this morning to some variable cloudy skies, but they cleared our fairly quickly. The 1st Lady, after breakfast, did some laundry......the laundry basket was getting quite full, so it was time to find several washers and dryers to get it all done. While she was gone I went up to our lot/site-to-be and began to move some rocks and stones around so the resort can do some fill work on the edge of our property line.
When she had the laundry all done, she went up there with me....and once again we tried to visualize and measure where we might put TheHowserHouse on the lot. We have many options for placement....as the lot is very good size!! It can go along on side of the property line....or along the line 90 degrees differently....or diagonally or in the middle of the lot....or...or???? We want the best view of the mountains that we can get.....and yet, I am not wanting to move the utility hookups to far from where they are now. Sooooo, lots to decide in the NEAR future!!!!!
The afternoon came.....and went!!!! And then, it was time to go to Mac/Gail's for a real turkey breast dinner, along with Revy and John. We all carried in some additional dishes to go with the turkey/dressing/gravy......and it was a meal for royalty!!!!! Gail is such a fantastic cook....and she just outdid herself this afternoon!!!!! And then.....THEN...the fresh peach pie which she made and was STILL warm when we ate it.....WOW...WOW...WOW. I had better get my ass out of this resort or they will have to widen the gate for me to exit before long!!!!!
The weather??? What the hell do you expect??? BEAUTIFUL.....upper 70's with some great breezes blowing those beautiful white puffy clouds over the mountain ranges!!! Am I in heaven????? If only I could just snap my fingers and have our new lot-to-be designed, and completed with plants and concrete patio. Wouldn't that be nice?????
Earlier this week I made our reservations with Northwest Airlines, through Expedia, for our trip next month to Hartford, CT. Well, today...I got an email on my iPhone that they had changed our itinerary!!!! And......after calling Expedia agents, one told me a completely different schedule than the other one, from which I had been cut off of the phone because of the poor AT&T service here in the valley. Soooooo....which one do I believe?????? DAMN!!!! I just fired off an email to Expedia about this......and the email was slightly burned on the edges from the fire coming out of my mouth as I wrote!!!
This morning....I neglected to say above.....the new "neighbors" across the street from our lot came over to introduce themselves. Seemed like great people....from Salt Lake City....and they have a class A motorhome on their corner lot, which is nicely landscaped and looks gorgeous!!! Soooo, we are meeting more and more people here in this RV Resort....and THAT we LOVE!!!!!
And so...........another day has disappeared from my Life! WOW....how many do I have left???? Time is bound to be getting shorter for this sagging hulk of Me.....right??? I feel like I am just picking up speed like a ball doing down hill.......except this is my sagging hulk bouncing around as I go faster and faster down this Hill of Life. WHAT a visual.....eh???
You know.......Yep....you DO know what I am about to say.....and even though it gets written every day.....it IS still valid and sooooooo strongly felt by me:
LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!

Day 23-24, Sept 4-5, 2009: A NEW venture/adventure!!!!!!!!
Two days have disappeared from my Life.....and it is about time I shared some information with all of you.!!!! We have been busy, busy, and spending a lot of time in deep discussions about our plans, our goals, our thoughts, our desires......and.......
Yesterday morning after our morning rituals, several cups of my rich, dark coffee, and much discussion with the 1st Lady.....I went down to the Resort Office. There I met with the member of the Stewart family who own this resort and acres and acres and acres surrounding this resort. After discussion with him, I then met with the realtor for the resort where we discussed the price of the corner lot that is for sale. The owner lives in San Diego and has not been around, has not developed the lot as far as patio, landscaping, gravel, etc., etc. It does have the electric power, sewage connection, and water hookups....but, with the exception of some weeds.....that is all that has occurred with this lot.
Sooooo, confirming that the price listed was $39,000 for this much larger lot than all of the others in the middle of the blocks....the corner lots are all bigger than the regular lots, I offered $33,000 cash for the lot/site. And....in the same breath I told the realtor that my offer was my one and only offer....not haggling over the price back and forth with the seller. Soooo, he said he would inform the seller and let me know.
Yesterday, later afternoon, the realtor called me and told me he had contacted the seller and that he would "have to pray over the offer". That was fine with me.......because I felt that if it was meant to be, then we would get the lot/site.....if not, that would be fine too as there must be a reason for us not getting it.
Sooooo, the 1st Lady and I talked and talked about it.......filled out more legal forms for the realtor later in the day......and then discussed it some more. We decided that we could go either way....with getting it, or without getting it......whatever happened would be fine with us!!
Sooooo, TODAY: The day dawned with some cloud cover.....cooler, but still very nice. We went to town to the Post Office to mail some things for her F'town Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, went to the grocery store....and as we were coming home I got a voice mail to call the realtor. Doing just that.....he told me that the seller had agreed to our offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW......guess we were meant to own it, huh?????
And soooo, the afternoon was spent measuring the lot..it is irregularly shaped, not just a plain old rectangle, as the street curves around it....and with the street being put in the wrong place, as we later learned this afternoon, we have more space than the usual corner lots. Not knowing just where the stakes were to define the lot corners, I called the realtor and he came to the lot, began trying to locate the metal stakes under the gravel covering, and this took some time. Then....he called the developer who had plotted out the lot.....and with him working, we did get it measured and lined out.
The remainder of the afternoon was spent in measuring the RV, then the truck, then the lot as to just where we would park the RV for the best window exposure to the mountains. Not....NOT an easy task to do with the odd shape that this lot is!!!! Soooo, as of now, we still have not decided just where the place will be for the RV and where we will have concrete poured for the initial patio to be. Just soooooo many decisions to be made!!!!! We have GREAT windows in the 5er and want to take advantage of being able to see the mountains that surround this lovely valley......so we can look out on it at any time.
We close on the sale on Sep 25th, but most likely we will not be here for that. I do have work to do on the lot, some adding of gravel on the edges, seeing that sewage input gets moved slightly, and other things, like pulling weeds out of the gravel, etc., etc., etc.
This evening the 1st Lady and I and Mac/Gail went to the resort's International Dinner....the end of the summer dinner that the resort sponsors. We had a lot of fun, ate waaaayyyy tooooo much of Italian, Mexican, German, Cajun, Polynesian, American dishes that were on various tables around the "Barn"....the gathering place for happenings here at Star Valley Ranch RV Resort. A great time....and some excellent food!!!!
We still want to go down to Utah to the National Parks, or at least some of them as we may not have time to do as much as had planned due to this new purchase of land. We must be back by Oct 1st in Misery as we fly to Hartford, CT on Oct 7th for a week with our son, Jeremy and his fiance Anne-marie!!!
And sooooo, a busy two days of our journey. Days that I could not have seen coming.....had no thoughts about doing this, but we do believe it is a very good investment as land out here in the resort is appreciating each year. Single lots in the middle of the blocks are selling for more than what we paid for this large corner lot with the very good views of the mts......so feel sure we can do alright with this land purchase! Must have been meant to be!!!!!
What more can I say.....but, as always.........
LIFE IS JUST REALLY INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!

Day 22, Sept. 3, 2009: Another gorgeous day.......and trying to decide....??
WOW....will these beautiful days stay forever here in Star Valley??????? It is just one after another and, please.....I am NOT complaining!!!! HAHAHA....who in the hell could complain with these types of days!!!??
This morning..........we spent talking, discussing, meditating, and pondering a couple of lots that are for sale here. One is twice as large as the other one, but the costs are more, however.....the larger one has great views of the eastern mountain range sooooo, much to think about.
I met with the Star Valley Ranch realtor to discuss the purchases.......the restrictions, the resale possibilities, the "hidden" costs, etc., etc.....and came with away with some thoughts and information. Now........the lists of pros and cons need to be constructed....right???
This afternoon.....well, I was getting a headache just from thinking soooo much about whether to purchase an rv lot/site...that I just quit the headwork and washed the filth and dust off of the truck. And that helped to clear my mind for awhile.
This evening....back over here at Mac and Gail's to use their wifi......visited on Skype with good friend Pete.....and could have talked longer but needed to get some things done on here before I need to leave their home here tonight.
Yep...this is a very jerky post........jumping from one damn thought to another....much like my whole day has been. And, not sure tomorrow will be any better....haha. Guess the bottom line is : do we want to purchase a lot that we would feel obligated to spend each summer at......or, do we want to continue to travel here in the states/Canada....and overseas...which would mean that we do not purchase a lot/site here?????? Or, do we look at it as a small investment as these sites DO appreciate each year....and this resort IS growing very fast!!! And....each year the prices DO go up for the lots.....soooo, do we invest in one or not???? Do we continue to see the country and the world or not????? Or.....can we do both???? OMG......I may get that headache again!!!
And so....I will close for tonight. My mind is whirling........however, as always.....
LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!!

Day 21, Sept 2, 2009: Ahhhh....how great it is to do nothing but enjoy living Life!!!!!
Yep.....the above title says it all!!!!!!! Today was all about just enjoying being alive and living in the Star Valley of Wyoming!!!! It was not a day of touristy things, it was not a day of doing things that needed getting done........it was just one of those marvelous days for doing nothing.
Life is soooooo relaxed here! The 1st Lady went for two hours of line dancing while I worked on a piece of communication/letter that needs to be mailed this week......and then this afternoon it was just.......sit on the patio, look at the mountains, enjoy the warmth of the sun at this altitude, and then........
We prepared dinner for Mac and Gail.........with this sagging hulk of Me grilling some VERY thick boneless pork chops. A great salad with various veggies prepared various ways.......some wonderful cabernet for my glass......and engaging conversation as we dined al fresco on the patio. A great way to end a great day.......and with a full, or almost full, moon in the cloudless sky.....this day has been about as close to perfect as it can get!
And sooooo, I have discussed my entire day.......a really interesting post for all of you to read.....eh???? We are sooooo lucky to be able to be here for an extended visit......and we feel sooooo lucky that we can make these journeys this late summer/early fall. Our only wish is that more of you could do the same......and join us in our travels!!!!
But.......the time will come when you can do that....as I always say: If you don't think BIG, nothing BIG will ever happen! And...as always........
LIFE IS JUST REALLY, REALLY, SUPER GREAT!!!!!!!.....And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!

Day 20, Sept 1, 2009: A day in Jackson Hole, WY
GUESS WHAT!!!!???? It was ANOTHER gorgeous morning here in the Star Valley of Wyoming!!!! It was a bit chilly....not certain how low the temps dropped, but we did turn on the furnace for about 30 minutes this morning to take the chill off of the interior of TheHowserHouse. A quick breakfast, some hot Fr. Roast coffee and the 1st Lady's hot tea.....and then we went to Mac/Gail's home, said our farewells to Ben and Jill who are leaving today, and then went down and brought the truck for us to make the 50 mile trip to Jackson Hole.
We arrived there about 10:30 after a wonderful trip up through the Snake River Canyon for many miles.....the road hugging the hillsides above the sparkling Snake River with it's white water areas and it's placid pools.
We made a couple of stops at various stores where we could pick up a few items that we needed.....and then we went into the center of town where there are soooo many wonderful stores.....art galleries, western stores, name-brand shops, and many cafes and restaurants. And it was at the latter that we went to next......
The Bunnery.........a great little cafe with fresh baked breads, pastries, desserts, great sandwiches and wonderful coffee!!!! We ate here four years ago.....and the 1st Lady and I remember it sooooo well. We ate on the patio under red umbrellas on this beautiful day with just perfect temperatures.......and took our time enjoying the meal and the ambience of being in such a wonderful scenic area!
Afterwards, we found ourselves in many of the stores and galleries, enjoying each one....and looking for bargains(?),......and not many were discovered!!!! We spent the remainder of the afternoon doing just that.....exploring downtown Jackson Hole and the shopping areas around this not-so-big town. I do believe it has to be a town which caters to tourists.....and where most of their economic vitality originates.
Driving back down the Snake River Canyon, we arrived back at the RV Resort at 6pm......and from that time on we relaxed on the patio, talked with our son, Mike, by phone.....and then began to walk around the rv area. Running into our friends, we talked and laughed, as well as going around looking at sites that are for sale. And........we found a couple that we do like....and plan to look at them closer in the morning. We seem to be thinking much, much more seriously about purchasing a lot/site for TheHowserHouse here in the incredible Star Valley!!!
After a short visit to the park model of friends, John and Revy, we returned home under an almost full moon in the clear and crisp evening here in the Valley. Just beautiful!!!!!!!
And....you know what.........each day here easily assures us that........
LIFE IS JUST INCREDIBLY GREAT!!!!!!!......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!!!

Day 19, Aug 31, 2009: WOW....such a super day of doing nothing!!!!!!
Ahhhh.....yep...it was another wonderful day of doing nothing. And....what better place than right here in the Star Valley of western Wyoming....just a couple of miles from Idaho....which is within easy view from here.
What did we do???? Nothing.....just visiting, just discussing, just enjoying the life of a retired band director and science teacher in the mountains of this wonderful Wyoming. And....that is the complete truth.....nothing/nada!!!!!!!
And.....it did feel great to lay around on the patio, reading a novel, sipping some wine during our own little Happy Hour, and then talking with two of our granddaughters on Skype later this evening. Next....we must talk with Rachel on Skype.....ok, Rachel??? How about tomorrow night????
No pictures taken today.......the only activity was our friends Stan and Pat leaving for Idaho with their motorhome and belongings, with Casa Grande, AZ, as their final destination for the winter. They have a lovely Park Model there, just a few steps from where our friends Mac and Gail have their Park Model. In fact......there are others who also have their winter home there.
Soooo.....tomorrow we are day tripping up to Jackson (Hole) for the day. I always enjoy going there.....lots of cool western stores, a wonderful cafe/bakery where we ALWAYS love to go eat, and other places to enjoy. Sooooo....some pictures tomorrow night, with luck!!!!
OK.....even though it was a day of nothing.........as always......
